Hello, after purchasing a new 510 at Love's on 11/12/2011, the GPS worked good, and I liked it. A little over 15 months later it's a paper weight. I occasionally read a few of your posts, and had heard about the flickering screen and power cord complaints. About 2 months ago my screen would flicker for a few minutes then straighten out, sometimes once a week. The cord seemed to make a good connection, and I was very gentle with it. Starting my week last Sunday 2/24/2013, heading to Tennessee it went dead, and I could not restart it. I totally relied on the unit, plus with all my saved addresses, I decided to stop at the TA in Walton, KY and buy another one, hoping that RMN would help me out someway. I called them Monday, he was able to make the unit come to life again, (hold the reset for 15 seconds, then the start button for 15 seconds), so I could backup the new one with my data, but he told me it would not be reliable and since it was over 12 months old nothing could be done, unless I wanted to pay for the repairs. I'm very disappointed, is there anything you can help me with this situation?

    Thanks, Tom

When my screen flickers, I just re-crimp the mini-usb connector shell and then fiddle with the connection until it's good again. Seems to be a weak point with these units. Would be nice to see RM step up to the plate on this issue. While Mark does a great job covering their rear, I don't see them making any effort to officially respond to or correct what I consider to be major issues.

RM's official responses to reported issues (or lack thereof) will be a major consideration when I'm considering options to upgrade my 710

    Mark Kling Thanks this.

When I go to settings, device, about on my 710, my Version is 11.95.2258.1629. Then when I press OS version at the bottom, it's A4.QC.RM.2T710.110629 and my map data version is 1101217. Is this info all up to date? This is on an RMA unit I received from them last week.

Also, I use trails a lot. If I back up my data on my pc, does that get backed up as well and can I transfer it to another unit?

Your User files do get backed up. You can transfer between TND's. I am not sure the New Dock will allow between Models, but you can manually move the files.

    Yes you are up todate.

    Thanks,
    Mark

I second that, Mark has taken care any problems I have had, when RM's offer of a trade in for the new 720 I passed just because I didn't think the power connection has really been fixed. But I do like my 510, no regrets on buying it.

Hi Mark, I know, Its been awhile. Sorry about that.

Can you tell me if the New MAps are out for 2012 - 2013? I purchased a lifetime maps update from ran, about 1 1/2 years ago for my 700, yet I have yet to see or get any of the map updates for it.

    Thanks

    Mark,

A few months back I posted with an issue regarding "A burp of Spanish". You ask to have some additional information; frequency, location, etc..
Well, it has taken awhile but I have finally some extra info that you can take upstairs to the analysts.

Last trip: Montreal to Atlanta: I-87, I-88, I-81
    Unit: 720
Settings: Warnings On, Audio/Visual (with auto cancel set at 10 seconds)
    Voice: Tom
Frequency: at least a dozen times starting at the US border in Champlain NY; (where I was actually in their compound when it started) or when starting to move from a rest area down through Harrisonburg PA
Here's the kicker: The audio message of two words (possibly spanish), with a visual message, in English, says, " Your route will take you on dirt roads for about 0.3 miles" Message is always the same.
This message does not auto cancel.
This issue finally stopped or settled down near Charlotte, NC. and I haven't hear it since. Equals a few days, that is.

    2nd issue
Despite following the "Crimp the USB power plug" instruction, I'm having an increasingly difficult time keeping the unit running. Currently, the house adapter doesn't work at all; will not power the unit. It will power my old 510.
The car/truck (12V) adapter is getting close to the same condition. I can't have this unit suddenly shutting down in the middle of a critical manoeuvre, example: in the city on final approach. Since I remove the unit from the truck when my week is done, I suppose the continuous plug/unplug action is stressing the contacts. I have a 510 and used it the same way and never had this problem. Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.
    Forest
