We have one Volvo with a D12D rated at 420hp.
It was down on power so we sent it to a specialist to check over.
He said all he did was clear some fuel lines to get fuel pressure up.

Gave us a dyno report that lists torque at 1865ft/lbs at 1250rpm.
    Hp 362 at 1500rpm.

The HP at the wheels seems okay but the torque is higher than expected from a 420.

    Am I correct?

2500 NM is more then enought, factory torque limiter is 2100 NM.

but if injectors go bad that inject more fuel you need and so engine runs like 440 HP.

To check is easy. VCADs pro reads fuel rate at idle. With new injectors it is 1.7-2.2 l/h. Old injectors read 0.5-1.5 l/h. so engine runs better, but fuel milage suffers.

You know I had planed to send it in because is was heavy on fuel and was giving some black smoke when changing gears (Geartronic).
The low power thing was something that just came up now.
I asked them to check all injectors and set the valves.
When I queried why the valves and injectors had not been done they said if they had needed it the dyno would have shown it.
I was not happy because engine has over 700 000km so I think it would be wise to do injectors and set valves.
It has not done a load yet but if it is still heavy on fuel I will send it back.
    Thanks for the info.

Just sent the truck back (1 month ago) as we were having a starting problem in the mornings.
Said they must change all injectors and reset/shim all valves.
This place a does dyno run before and after they work on a truck.
They use a Dastek dynameter .
Again this truck seems way up on power and torque at the wheels.
    They list a typical FH12 420 as having 2247,2NM/1657,4 ft/Lbs @ 1250rpm this truck measured 2820NM/2080ft/lbs.
    They list a typical FH12 420 as having 222,2KW/301,84hp @1500rpm this truck measured 286KW/389hp.
This is almost 25,5% more torque and 29% more power to the wheels then typical for this make and model.
What could the reason be and can the torque damage the transmission (2005 Geartronic).

Hard to say but I once drove a D12C 420 that almost beat 470 D16, they were both in factory tunes. Later they programmed the ECM and the programmer said that he has never before seen a D12 that has so good factory parameters.

Gearbox will be fine, Volvo boxes are very strong.

    king Q Thanks this.
