Ok, didnt know where to post this but I figured some one might be able to dig out an opinion. What is the best APU and why. Such as best service history, cost, cost of operation etc.

I've heard bad things about rig master, plus they are loud and obnoxious. Thermo King TriPac is highly rated but not an easy install and not cheap. $10k installed, and only comes with a 1 year warranty. You can buy longer warranty coverage but it's only for certain failures. I was going to put one in my W900L but decided to stick a Webasto bunk heater in it instead. I am working on my own reefer-link to keep the truck charged via the reefer. The bird box is installed and a second 7-way plug. I also used it for a set of trailer back up lights which have been really handy.

tri pak, (thermoking ) its quiet and runs at lower rpm than the carrier model, and it shuts off and turns on automatically when it charges your batteries up for being used with a inverter
CondoCruiser and fr8wurx Thank this. -
I like the TriPac for most of its features, AC, Webasto bunk heater, and ability to cycle on and off as needed for battery charging and heating the main engine block. But what I dislike is the small alternator 65 amp, which with the 1850 watt inverter, is insufficient to power even my smaller 700 watt microwave.
I wish there was a system like the TriPac but with one major addition, 120 volt generation that only kicked on when the load being drawn in the system needed it.fr8wurx and CondoCruiser Thank this. -
I have a Webasto bunk heater which will cook me out of the truck if I get the setting wrong so I dont worry about being cold. But keeping cool in the summer, keeping the engine warm and the batteries charged arent covered. It is to the point now that it is cheaper to get a motel for the night than to idle.

Does anyone know if Central trucks have APU's installed in them?
-
We have a rigmaster apu. The only reason why we bought it was for it being standalone. Which i think means it doenst have the fan on the sleeper, it has it on the apu itself. It is quite loud. Almost like running a reefer all night long. Im looking into buying a tripac apu for my truck. The guy wants little to non for it.

Runflat standalone means that the APU is NOT tied into the tractors systems, usually meaning the APU is not part of the main engine's cooling system, which a TriPac is.
RunFlat Thanks this. -
I have seen quite a few impressive "homemade" systems that cost under $1,000 and provide both generator, heat and A/C
Someone here on the forum has even installed solar panels (which i will look into later when funds permit)buddyvuk Thanks this. -
What about the Cummins units. I thought I seen some on there website. The article said the engine was an Onan which is connected with them in some way .
