A few years ago I gave the K40 fiberglass antennas a try. They tune up well, but the thicker fiberglass version seemed to break easily. The thinner fiberglass version seemed to hold up better when battling winds and such.

That's what I thought at first, but when he described it, it was painfully obvious it was simply a meter. "Put it in CAL, and dial whatever SWR you want with the knob"...

Everyone, thanks for your input. I just switched to single phase with new co-axial, mount, and K40 antenna. I followed the directions on back and all is well.

I know I'm a little late now that you already bought them but I've been happy with them.

I dont mean to hijack his thread, but I thought my antennas were perfect untill i red this. I have 1 Br-78 flatcoil antenna and a cobra 29 peaked and tuned. When I go to the Cal switch on 40 and key up and calibrate it, I put the needle where it should be, but when i go to channel one on cal and key up, the needle isnt where it is on 40. Does this mean i have to extend my antenna? I just wanna be on the same page as everyone else, thanks, Zach

The needle well be at a different place from channel one to channel forty, when in the calibration mode. this is what you should expect to see. calibrate the meter every time you do a test. What you are really looking for is were the needle goes after you calibrate, then change from cal. to swr. mode, key up without modulation and that's your reading.

Looks like the thin k40 fiberglass whip around too much in heavy wind.

I've vacuumed all over at least 6 times and still find glass to step on or in the bed. :biggrin_25513:

    Skellr,
From the pic in your sig file, that ain't Fibreglas®; it's snow :biggrin_25522:

It took me nearly 30 years in Alaska before I realized that stuff would eventually disappear on its own, but would reappear each August (or so, at least up in Bareflanks).

Or you're driving behind the world's sloppiest cocaine transporters......
