I have not had a chance to update this till now so here it is.

I delivered Mon. morning and then started heading too my next pick-up. I stopped at a TA to get breakfast and I figured I'd call and talk to the head of maintenance to see why he wouldn't authorize getting this trailer fixed. The reason he gave me was that he wanted me to bring it back to the terminal so he could inspect the seals to see if there leaking. I said What....? I just told you there leaking, do you think I'm lying or just incompetent? Do you want me to crawl under there and take some pictures and send them to you? He just blew that off and repeated that they needed to inspect them at the terminal.

So I hung up with him and called safety, I didn't think that I would get to far with them though because he's dating the girl that runs the safety department. I got one of the other girls in safety and she tells me that she's not getting involved with whats going on between me and the head of safety. I found that comment very interesting because I didn't know there was anything between me and him, and I thought the safety departments job was to get involved when you are being told to do something unsafe by maintenance or your dispatcher.

So she puts me on hold and gets my dispatcher on the line. He say's I'll take care of it and call you right back. Next thing i know I'm getting a call from the head of maintenance telling me to sign in at the shop in the TA. So after all that my dispatcher is who gets #### done.

When they got it all torn down they found three wheel seals were bad and the brakes were all oil soaked also. The bearings on that trailer are greased and not oiled. There was a pile of grease on the back of the brake shoe's on the two that were completely shot.

The thing that really pissed me off about the whole ordeal is I tried to get it fixed on Sun. when i had a day of dead time. Instead I had to do it Mon. and lost another day. The TA I was at only had a two bay shop, I checked in a little after noon , they called me into the shop around seven and I pulled out around four in the morning.

So I don't think this is a common thing here at this company, I'm kinda thinking I've just somehow pissed off the head of maintenance and he was just trying to get back at me. I'm going to ask him what his problem is with me when I turn in my truck later today. We'll see how that goes.

Yeah no problems getting home. Good luck at Sammons! That will probably be my choice if my soon to be local job doesn't work out. Keep us all posted about it over there, especially being in the midwest.

last i talked to sammons. they wanted 2 years 48 OTR. and it takes more then a week to process the paperwork, finance and piuck out a truck and trailer and all that jazz.

i was going to apply as i only got 6 weeks to go. but i don't think i can live on them $500 paychecks after truck payment and fuel.
i mayyyyyyyy not be understanding the math correctly but 60% to fuel. i know fuel cost varies every week and probably don't equate to 60% of the revenue. then 24% towards truck note. leaving you with only 26%.

let's say your truck only uses 50% revenue for fuel. OR, 70%. mileage varies. pending weight. speed, and flatland vs. mountains. and aerodynamics.

i was a mechanic in a previous life. bearings ALWAYS get greased. cuz it takes time for the oil to splash up into the shaft to lube the bearings.

that's doing the job correctly. but some of us know that not every mechanic does a job correctly.

last time i had brakes and seals done. i drove 400 miles and had brakes and seals done AGAIN. along with a new hub.

With sammons the way i understood it was they pay you 26% off the top then then the fuel comes out then trailer rental and maint. Then what ever is left over goes to the truck payment.

I have had nothing but good results working with Sammons agents as an approved carrier. They are an old school, no BS bunch and I thoroughly enjoy my dealings with them. Even ventured to a summer company cookout (weekly) while passing through Missoula back in 2010 and was treated as one of the gang even though I just pull occasional loads for them. Good choice.

The OP reminds me of how inefficient and pointless CSA is. Isnt the idea of CSA to make companies AND drivers responsible for safety? How are companies not maintaining trucks?

Because drivers won't stand their ground and make the carrier fix the equipment.
