Got offered my first oversized load. It is 119" wide, 10' tall by 38' long weighing 15k.

I have yellow lights on both sides of the tractor, flags and oversize signs, but we have 30 mph gusts for the next two days, I turned this one down. It was going 600 miles @ $2.50 a mile.

What kind of regulations do I need to know?

you will or should get a list of provisions with your permits for every state that will tell what and when you drive or escorts needed.why did you turn it down? you also a get an oversize hand book from any truck stop it will help, but will need to make sure you get the provision lists with permits.

Regulations? You need to know them all. The rate on this would have killed it for me, not the wind.

I didn't mind the rate, but I might forget to stop in scale if my Pre-Pass blinks green :biggrin_2559:

I need to get everything in order and makes plans for my next load.

don't pass the coop if it's open you will get everything checked, they will run an oversize thru the ringer, it's not hard to learn or do,it's slower paced and day light hours and more watching whats going on around you.I've been doing OS/OW for many years and really enjoy what I do.

prepass does you no good on O/S loads. you have to stop.

you also need permits. thus, lowering your 2.50 rate.

AND, correct me if i'm wrong. but wouldn't you also need escorts over 10 ft. wide. depending on the state???

what would you guys haul for? ratewise?

    BAYOU and DozerCowboy Thank this.

this is why od rates suck right now, people taking them that dont understand the extra time and work involved.

Its why im back pulling general freight this winter. ;)

generally permits and any escort fees have padded in with unforeseeable or in writing as an extra.
