Next time you get by Walcott (or any Iowa 80 brand T/S), pick up this little book. It makes quick reference easily for quoting OS and figuring out escorts, driving times and such. You will still need to read all provision sheets, but this book is awesome to have for a reference...

As for the rste, everyone is right and that is extremely low. Should be closer to the $4.50 range due to the fact you will be wasting 2 days pulling it with curfew times on 600 miles. Just my .02critters Thanks this. -
I drive for Mercer so the rate is to the truck. If 10' for escort is true, this load was 119".
I have never has the opportunity to stop in the Iowa80
The T/A had it
. Time to start reading this evening. This load may still be available tomorrow.
critters Thanks this. -
with Mercer permits and escorts if needed is payed by Mercer. I enjoyed my time there Good people.
Blind Driver Thanks this. -
The book is telling me to just put a flag on each corner of the load, oversize on the front of the tractor and rear of the trailer, and turn my amber strobes on, and get my permits from Mercer. I'm going to see if this load is still available tomorrow morning.
Easy peasy
-
the 4 coroners of vehicle and the widest point of load, I use from 6-8 flags, but im also usually over 11'9 wide.
-
Remember ohio states that the 4 corners of the vehicle are the 4 corners of the trailer. Just some FYI we found out.
The Challenger and SHC Thank this. -
The book stated flags on each corner of the load for the three states I looked into. Which were Virginia, Maryland, and Kentucky.
-
You can't be too visible. With those extra wide loads, I may even go as far as to add LED battery powered amber strobes on the sides.SHC Thanks this.

if you want the advice from someone who does this, don't go bare minimum on anything, chains, straps, flags. it will attract attention from the DOT, overkill will most times get a wave or quick looks from them.
DozerCowboy and aiwiron Thank this.
