My wife has thought about going thru some pilot car training course so she could run pilot for me doing OS runs. Would be nice to pocket the extra $1,000 - $2,500 in fees

never used one as i don't want the hassles. But I figured if I could keep to within 300 miles of the house, it would be easy for the wife to be the pilot driver for me. Prob won't ever happen, but was a thought I'd had. Obvioulsy I'd get a RGN or Lowboy to maxamize profits at that point.

dont take this the wrong way but there are alot of people doing just that, i've seen in the past couple of years. some dont have a clue what they are doing. some are just winging it and hope they dont get caught. saw a truck the other night at the fuel stop in my town. 3 axle truck (old and ragged lookin) with a 4 axle beam trailer that looked like it had been pulled out of the weeds from sitting for many years. had a D9L loaded on it with the cab sittin on the beam in front of it. and he left in the dark! scary!

That might be a good idea if you have your own authority. I looked into it for our company but by the time I put up the bond and drove 500-600 miles to the pickup, and 200 miles DH after delivery, I couldn't really justify it. Not that I couldn't make money at it, but I could be doing better things with my time. Quicker and easier for me to call my guy. he charges ~$1.50 but no dead head.

You also have to watch the signs going into the scales. Some have you pull through the scale, some have you pull behind and go in.

I got the idea after talking with 2 LS drivers who have their wives run escort for them. Once they empty, they just put the car on the trailer and go home. They ran local of Houston within 800 miles and said they were doing 1 move a week. They were not getting rich, but sure beat paying an escort $1.50 mile plus hotel charges. I know I could do really well in the Chicago area running over 14' wide loads, but sometimes I'd need 2 pilots. If I ever did thi, I would run a 6 axle set-up with the tridem LOW or RGN. I wouldn't want to go any bigger due to the costs involved. And i honestly have been told that I can do just as well with the SD and running OS with the escorts also...... but right now it's just a thought. Wife said as long as I can get home on weekends the way it is now then she is happy, so no need to drag her out here yet lol
