    Hello All,

i am looking into becoming a driver and it appears that Gordon is one of the better companies out there to drive for from what I'm reading. I live in the Sacramento, CA area and it looks like there used to be a drop yard off of Florin Perkins Road. Can anyone tell me if it is still there? Is this where Gordon would require me to park on home time, or do they let you take the truck home? Also, after training can you actually get home once a week? I see Gordon trucks passing through Sac all the time so this doesn't seem like it would be a problem. Any information from Gordon vets would be appreciated! Thanks much!

A major GTI yard is located at Lathrop, CA. Very nice yard, paved, well lit, fenced, just off the freeway (I5). Nice drivers amenities as well such as laundry, private showers, large drivers lounge.

I'm not sure about the local drop yard you've meantioned. I'm an OTR reefer driver, so I mostly see the major yards not the 50 trailer drop yards.

As far as getting home, that would depend on your fleet. I live in Tacoma and they seem to try to keep me away from Pacific (seattle/tacoma area) for as long as possible. They give me the Hometime (H/T) as requested, but can't seem to get a load that stops by the home area for an overnight. This will depend on your fleet and if you have a DM that is actually willing to work for/with you. DM's and Planners are human beings. Some are considerate and helpful; some are pondscum who only care about racking up miles on their board and think the driver is just a piece mechanical gear attached to the truck.

In other words: Your results may vary..

Thanks a lot for the info. I went by the drop yard in Sacramento and saw several Gordon trucks parked there along with a few unhooked trailers. Looks like it is mostly a spot for drivers to park on their H/T. I was glad to hear that they get you home when you ask. My goal would be once a week, but I realize that as an OTR driver that will probably be wishfull thinking. The DM issue seems to be pretty consistent with all the trucking firms, Gordon just "seems" to be better than the others based upon what I'm reading on here. Thanks again for the info!

Krs697...you might try and see if they have a fleet that runs up & down I-5 exclusively...if they have something like that...you should be able to get through thru the house regularly going from pacific nw to SoCal.

Thanks much for the info. That would be an ideal situation eventually. I'm sure after training I'll have to work with whatever I'm given initially. After time I'm sure that's possible. Just trying to get info from Gordon driver's in the real world. You can ever trust what the recruiters or the driving school sales folks tell ya :)

If you want to stay I-5, do not go to Temp Control (TC or Reefer) fleet. Stay in dry van and they have many dedicated shippers you can get into.

    krs697 Thanks this.

Great information! Thanks much. I-5 is definitely what I would prefer.
