Congrats by the way for your completion of Sage. How has it been for you now that you are done? Do you have to actively pursue jobs or are recruiters knocking down your door? What kind of options have you come across for local, assuming you've looked into that.
-
Well you still have to apply, they aren't going to cold call you unless you show interest. The difference is that I applied at several companies, and now my phone rings off the hook with recruiters trying to set up orientation dates. It's a pretty smooth process, and you will have your choice of companies. I am at a orientation right now, and I didn't even have to road test because of Sage's reputation. You will have no problem finding work, and get to chose what fits your needs best.

I went to Sage today for a mini orientation. I learned what I need to know regarding the school and training. Ideally I would like to get a job running western regional. I might have a better chance of getting that if I go through Sage as opposed to company sponsored training.

Look up Watkins Shepard. They have a 12 western states run according to their recruiter.

I looked them up, but not a lot of info about their training program. I will have to contact a recruiter. Do you feel that you have many more options after going through Sage as what you would have if you went to a company school like Prime or something similar?

W&S does not have a CDL program any more. I've asked Monday, but I was recommended a few schools, and when I mentioned Sage, he told me that I better get my arse there. I was told that the only problem that I have is that I am in Florida, but if I can get an address somewhere else, I will do fine with them (I plan on making a move out west anyway.)

Interesting, I was just on their website and it would appear that they still have a CDL program. I wonder if they just haven't kept their site up to date? You better head west and get out of Florida before the big tsunami hits.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Watkins & Shepard no longer has a CDL school, but they recognize most private CDL schools. The company has van & flatbed. Many, many companies have Western Regional such as Marten Transport, System Transport, National Carriers, and a ton of others.
Watkins & Shepard and System Transport both have Denver terminals and both hire new CDL graduates. If System Transport interest you , ask if they accept Sage graduates. They have a very good website.Last edited: Mar 13, 2013

Thanks. So basically, if I want to go western regional asap I would be better off paying for my own CDL and trying for one of those companies. It sounds like those companies with CDL schools are going to send their newbies all over the 48.Chinatown Thanks this.
