Just booked 1280 total miles (854 loaded, 308 empty), pick Sunday, 2 drops: Monday AM and Tuesday AM. $2.50/mile all-in. The only negative is that it ends up in middle-of-nowhere LP Michigan. And yes, I'm moving 308 miles empty from MA to middle-of-nowhere upstate NY to get loaded. On a Sunday. I think we can work with that.

The broker sounded really stressed and said he was taking a $1k loss. I'm not sure that I believe that's the whole truth, but it's possible.

We went back and forth on the phone over a period of 3 hours, but I never backed down from the first rate that I quoted. This is a very large brokerage that we don't do much business with because of their low rates. In fact, we've only hauled one load for them so far. This will make our 2nd with them.

edit: forgot to mention that this is dry van freight.

Thats not that great of a rate considering the deadhead and the dead area to receive the product.

Outbound from MI is what would concern me. Sometimes it's there sometimes not. I watch it and I wouldn;t go up there for that.

I hope 2.50 a mile into the middle of nowhere and 300 mile deadhead isn't big money for a Landstar BCO......

Again IMO he did well.If he wanted to sit a few days and rot in a parking lot he may have done better, but i Doubt it..Being in boston on a weekend,i would roll with it to Mi.I would have a better chance in Mi than Mass..I just came out of Mi for over $3.00 a mile. There is so much ''short'' haul big money loads up there to do.He will be much better being in Mi than Mass cheap crap.Again IMO

That was my thinking. $2.50/mile out of the Boston market to anywhere is good paying freight. Singled out, this load may not look so good - as in "what were you THINKING taking a load to Boston?!?!". But when you go back 2 weeks and look at the chain of loads that got me here, it might make a little more sense.

I've got enough built into this that I can absorb the 250 miles empty to Chicago if I absolutely have to, without it hurting too much.

By the way, you did understand that I got paid for the deadhead, right? Rate is $3200 to the truck, $2.50/mile for ALL miles.

As far as Landstar.I feel L/S Takes way to much % from us.They let us run under there Auth and do our IFTA for us.I would think for this little bit of work 28% is a bit over kill....That could be a different thread that would bring out the Landstar Lovers...
