Good points..Is anyone fighting these EPA rules? Any actual trucking groups that actual know and care about trucks? Will regulations keep getting pushed back or what will happen with these trucks and stupid retrofits

If it works out the way you mentioned, then there is not a downside? Personally would not know what to think if I could put 100 gallons of fuel in & pay $250 vs this $4 a gal crap.

Noticed oil on the board of trade is pushing the $95 a barrel mark.

Natural gas is going to be just like propane was years ago, it will never take off.

The fact that they even have those blue trucks should be enough for everyone to realize that they are really going to do this. January first 2014 is the day that all electronic trucks (not on the exemption list) must be carb compliant. They have the infrastructure in place, they have the (federal and state) funding in place for enforcement, they are training the manpower and they have the authority... Why would they not begin enforcing this in 11 months?

My thought, I think if you register your truck before the end of this month, come August or September, CARB will look at how many trucks do not have DPF filters on them, and they will extend the deadline 1-2 more years. So the guys who are putting DPF filters on now, are just paying to much for one, and loosing fuel mileage two. I will wait till the last bit of time to put one on just to see. CARB approves 1-3 new DPF filters every month, i'am waiting for this competition between the company's making them to bring the price down, and hope we get 1-2 mores years to meet there deadlines.

I'd think if there is a legal, compliant DPF for a class 8 diesel truck costing only $3000 the news would be everywhere.

I've talked to Ironman about cost and they said $15/$20k.

IIRC, there's a box on the CARB registration that asks: "is this vehicle used full or part time in agriculture?" Being plated in Ca. there might be some wiggle room but I doubt it.

There isn't a $3000 solution, the retrofit is too complex to allow for a cheap system.

But there is a serious question raised about how California can even think of telling a truck owner from outside their state to put anything on their truck as a requirement to enter and conduct business in the state. The interstate commerce clause which mandates only the federal government to regulate commerce between the states has been used to intrude in our lives and if California is allowed to continue to regulate commerce through anything beyond the constitutional, then a lot of the things the feds do now could be ignored by the states. It gets better, California gets federal tax money to maintain the federal road system we call interstates and California agreed to the state compact which they agreed to a set of standards like lights and safety equipment, so essentially unless the state where the truck is from demands that there are DEF/DPF system on a truck from that state, California doesn't have the right to regulate interstate commerce through CARB. By the way, I know this is an off topic comment, I just think this is a very important issue for all of us and should be repeated any time CARB is brought up. IF we don't fight this, than we can be put in worst situations by states like Illinois and New York.
