Fiddle Sticks...Did you find a job with any trucking company yet? Just wondering if your still looking since you are still posting on here. If not i hear CR England, Swift, Stevens take recent graduates as long as they graduated within the past month. Gotta get your feet wet with some bottom feeder company eventually.

Oh no you don't..Therein lies the problem. And Mr. Fiddlesticks sounds intelligent enough to not fall for the "bottom feeder" stuff..Good for him. Stop feeding the "mills" and they will eventually die off.

    Fiddle Sticks Thanks this.

Agree with your sentiment, disagree with your conclusion. About as much chance as a "National Driver's Strike".

This is so entertaining to read. The sentiment is in the right place but the "they will die off" is the funny part. Why? Because these companies are well known to the general public, which is where new drivers come from who the vast majority of the masses don't do as much homework other then what can I pay and I always wanted to drive a truck. Expecting these companies to be forced into changing how they do business from the driver angle is as about as a lost hope as expecting our government to pass a balanced budget and stop pork barrel spending.

This is just like being on the road and listening to the CB.
Everyone is telling everyone else how wrong they are.

    It never ends.

Was up in Canada last WED and was talking to one of knights drivers who runs loads in and out of Canada. he averages 1000- 1200 a week gets paid $50 every time he crosses boarder in BC and a $100 in Alberta. He just started 4 mos ago. Now one I found hard to believe is that this Canada driver said he was told by a Knight Container driver he was pulling in a G a week with weekends off and was going to switch over, but that you have to disconnect the dish to work the container schd to get it so he decided not to. Said he was told that Knight was correcting the logs after the fact at the term mng level. Since the E-logs are not full proof he just papers it and it is sorted out later as a equipment failure. I just don't see 1k a week doing short haul out of the ports 5 days a week for Knight as believable unless you count the quarterly bonuses and vacation pay into the weekly average

In case you are still trying to find a company that takes recent grads, about 4 years ago i went to Crete Carrier and they have a good training program. Was with them for 2.5 years and when i left i was at .42 a mile. I believe once your done with training they start you at .37 i believe, and if you live out west they will most likely put you on their westren regional which is 11 states. I left due to i wanted to be home more but all in all they area good company especially for new drivers to industry. I made a little over 50 thousand my last year there and the first year i was trained i made i do believe 44 thousand. Training was 8 weeks, no teaming one on one with trainer and training was 600 a week.

As of this repsonse, no, I have not found any employment yet. I may have to go back to couriering/expediting in my van to raise some funds as I am going dry.

I have a 'contracting' sort of third party arrangement application in for a company the does Estes work. Another iron in the fire is team-driving with a O/O for Fed Ex Ground; I will only accept this if the Chicago to Hartford, CT route is the one I will be driving. He is trying to bait-and-switch me to a Portland, OR route. The former, I am home four nights per week so I may sleep, the latter is some eight days on the road--wrong answer. I can go 72 hours without good REM sleep (sorta), but not 73.

Schneider is the only 'Big Mill' that I would consider. I would rather run outlaw for some Eastern European outfits getting 1099'ed in ten-year old trucks than slave to the bottom feeders you listed. At least at the EE outfits, I am confidant that I will make money. Whether I get to keep it or not after I get HOS or Equipment violations is another story....
