Im not interested in tanker at this point in my career, though I do have all endorsements. Overall Im pretty happy with OTR with TransAm. A few years down the road and I will look for a regional or dedicated run that pays better after we move out of the freight desert that is Florida, lol. I just miss my kids. But I do get to talk to my two year old on the phone every day, so that helps some.

Ah...yes! Especially the Orient. Only area of the world with happy ending barber shops.
We're trying to buy a house in Las Vegas and move there; found out today they have those Chinese KTV places there also. Wow, everything under one roof...old U.S. Navy daze memories.

1st off, How do you handle stressful situations, I mean heavy traffic , lots of folks coming at you from lots of directions at once , bad weather driving (being only 23 ,have you driven snow or ice very much), you'll be forced sometimes to go places that normally women don't go , and some of those places are not too safe , even for men. In other words there are lots of issues that a young women without your prior "problems" would have a real hard time coping with....Pile all of this on top being away from your child and it can be very hard.....Don't get me wrong here I'm not attempting to talk you out of giving trucking a try , I'm just trying to make you aware that there are things in this business that aren't exactly young lady friendly....

There are other professions that a young person especially a young women can be educated/trained to do that are very rewarding and also very, very lucrative. Take nursing for example , my wife was an RN when we got married and when we had our 1st son she gave up her career to be a stay at home Mom , only she made sure to keep her nursing education and stuff current and active while she was at home, when our youngest started his senior year in high school she went back to school got her masters and went on to become a CRNA. If you want you can google what a CRNA makes, and I'll believe you'll be surprised b/c it is over a 6 figure salary. My wife makes a very good living and I'm sure that you could also....like I said this path is much easier to take, more rewarding , both monetarily and and physically , plus you won't spend no where near the time away from your child or family. Good Luck!

I don't think the OP is a female... but, maybe I am wrong.... We do see alot of female drivers out there though.

I can only answer the baby part of your questions and only as a woman married to a man I got into trucking for I don't know what reason. He was local-ish when our son was first born (had to rush up from Dallas while I tried to avoid delivering until he got there!) but then citing money issues, returned to OTR within the first year. Since you aren't with your daughter's mother, it matters very little where she is raising the child alone anyway. Depending on the company you hire on with, you will most likely be out as much as 2-3 weeks before being able to get home especially if you really want to earn a living with the job. Make sure you and the mom plan together so that when you ask your dispatcher to get you by the house (or in for a couple of days), your daughter will be accessible to you during that time because if that is the main reason for you wanting to get home, well, you get my point. Secondly, depending on how much of her growing you may or may not already be missing, consider how much more this career choice will add to that. My son's dad said he didn't want to be one of those guys his kid didn't even know when he walked in the door and then basically, turned right around and did it anyway and has said in the last couple of years, something to the effect of how he drove his son's life away. You can't rewind life dude so be sure that you're sure...

And might I ask of you this......how are you as a driver (of any vehicle) with ADHD? My son is ADHD and Aspergers and get's behind the wheel (the few times anyone has let him try and tried to teach him) and just basically sits there. He does not "get" how much in involved in driving from literally having to drive for other people (those wonderful people too into their cellphones to do it themselves for one!) and even the simple task of understanding about checking and keeping an eye on all the mirrors and knowing whats around him at all times. He somehow managed to get a permit last year (wasn't there so not sure if he took a driving test or just the written one) but mainly because of how much I know insurance rates will rise, I have avoided letting him drive or trying to see if anything has changed for him which means I am the one to tote him to and from work.
