We had a shipper who didn't understand that drivers don't like to sit around for days. He wanted the driver to wait for 5 days. The agent introduced him to detention pay. The agent was told truck drivers don't need to make that much money. We said, "He should learn how to schedule his load. We'll pass, thanks."

We're still waiting on detention pay, for a shipper who didn't schedule a crane. We were on time and lost money on the load.

Frankly, I love agents and dispatchers who know what it's like. I had one lady tell me that all her loads should be turned in as "tarped". She gets a gold star in my book.

If you treat good drivers well, you might be able to find one, in 20 minutes. Never, ever pull a load from a driver that's booked 2-3 weeks in advance, because he doesn't call you, constantly. We had an agent pull a load from us. We scurried around to save it. We already had an appointment with the shipper. The agent took the load and gave it to another driver. We already had a load booked in Utah. I had to find a load to the vicinity, and we had to deadhead 500 miles for the last load, on our schedule. The agent said, "We weren't sure you were picking up the load." WTF???

You do crap like that, we'll never haul a thing for you. I also have an issue about detention. I expect to be paid for sitting for 3 days. If we don't get paid, we don't work for you.

I think you'll be a pretty good agent. What's your code?

I make our truck available and update, online. I'm not sure that does anything, but I do it.

Thanks for asking questions and I will try to help, if possible. Best wishes.

I haven't been on here long enough to post private messages, but if you send me your contact info, I will email or text you mine. I'm arguing for detention time for a driver today, but once again, we don't have any teeth, we can call and email and chase them like a deadbeat, but if they don't write the cheack, there is only so much I can do. Unfortunately, punching them in the face isn't an option.

The pulling a load thing is appalling. The only way I would do that is if I was unable to contact a driver for an extended period, say a week, before the pickup, with no answers to messages, emails, etc. I had a driver last week supposed to deliver on Saturday. I called his cell and left messages on Saturday and Monday. By Tuesday, he had too many messages to accept new ones. Had he been scheduled to pick up on Wednesday, I would have had serious reservations in hoping he would make himself available, and I'd be looking hard at a possible Plan B.

    Thanks for the good advice.

Sorry about your driver. Last week, I had an agent call and say, "Hey baby, that driver get that load?" I said, "Of course he did." That agent called me honey, baby, sugar and I finally said, "Whoa! Who do you think you're talking to, dude?" I had e-mailed, called and sent a text, that my husband was loaded. He was calling a lady with the same name, but not me.

I'm so glad I don't have to work with that guy. I couldn't get in a word, while he called me baby, honey and everything else.

I'm sorry your driver didn't call you, or answer calls. I thought two days discussion and a booking, was enough. I usually just send an e-mail. If we take the load, we're gonna show up. You shouldn't have to worry about drivers.

I don't know where you work, but if I call you, you can book us and we'll get the load. I'll pm you later.

most agents sit on thier _______ looking at broker boards instead of knocking on doors for direct customers. that is not just typical for landstar agents, its typical for agents of all companies. i am an ex bco so i wont be hauling for you but anyhow did you see the hint in the first sentence?
