I have a galaxy mirage 88 in my peterbilt. It picks up my heater motor, gps, and sometimes my jake brake. the swr meter is 3/4 of the way up even with the squelch almost all the way up and the rf gain up all the way. When some one drives by me i almost instantly lose them. the background noise disapears when i unhook coax from the back of the cb. I was thinking the antenna was not grounded good by a test light from the positive cb post to my antenna mount and it light up. I have run a negative wire from battery to cb but nothing with the power. any suggestions?

any radio install should be with be done with the positive and ground wires direct to the battery. and dont trust a test light. check your grounding with an external SWR meter for the antenna and an OHM meter for the actual ground.

Use a multi meter set on continuity to check. -
Most likely the ground wire is your problem.
Try connecting your ground wire to different grounding points.
Cut a 10ft to 20ft piece of 14 ga insulated wire. Use this wire as a temporary ground,
for testing your grounding points. Some ground point will pick up more noise than others.
