You are exactly right! I DON"T want to work---I WANT TO MAKE MONEY! Why do you think I left the 100% commission and messenger jobs? In fact, I said this very thing to the last courier company I worked for. I told him, "If you run me, pay me. If you don't pay me, don't run me--but don't you dare run me and not pay me!". What does the dopey do? He has me deadhead 24 miles for an envelope going the opposite direction of my house and then a 45 mile deadhead home since that was the only item for me for the day. I made $2.00 after fuel and tolls on that one.

I have already been-there-done-that driving for gratis--I am doing my best to avoid it in the future regardless of my lack of experience holding a CDL. I feel I have value-- a CDL holder with a clean MVR. If I am not compensated adequately for it, then I chalk the thousands I put up for obtaining my CDL as another waste of money for schooling.

Well, I claiming that OD 'gave me a shot' when they did not even extend an application to me is perplexing, but go ahead, you seem to be on a roll in your own mind....

Well, if you think it is not big deal, why don't you pony up the money for me?

Like I posted to dozzer, I don't want to work--I want to make money. There is a difference. I can 'work' at the Salvation Army feeding the homeless, or I can go to 'work' at the VA and shuttle around Veterans in wheelchairs---but neither of these will I make any money. I want to be PAID for my work. I am happy with all you Knighties that think making $35k/yr with 70 hour weeks and never seeing hometime after four years with Knight is the bomb. I have a bit more ambition.

I have experience working at a shipper who routinely dismissed all van drivers. I felt so bad for them (I was the scalemaster) but I was told 'Shut Up! That is our policy!"
I have experience as an O/O messenger, kinda a trucking at the micro level. I have read TTR. I have talked to drivers at the rail yards. I have talked to drivers and the scalemaster at the quarry. I know my sister's co-worker's husband got a local job right out of school paying him $40k/yr 50-55 hour weeks home every night.

Many of you who chastise me are living in the sticks or other hinterland, and the best you can do in Knight. I live in a major metropolitan city (suburb), and there has to be a payoff for the high cost of living and the corruption and heavy traffic I endure. I believe the payoff is that I have options even with my lack of experience--options other than signing on with a bottom-feeder.

Stay tuned--we will see if I win, or if the 'new world order' wins. Either way, I sure you apologists will dance on my head regardless.

Fiddle Sticks I remember you mentioned you have a cargo van. Which brings me to an ad I recently saw for Panther they pay a dollar a mile for cargo van operators. Perhaps something worth looking into. Which btw I can't help but laugh at and wonder why the fleasers agree to operate a tractor/trailer at CR England or Trans Am for 80 cents a mile.

Now I honestly don't know the full details of CR England and Trans Am program and pay outs HOWEVER, having pulled as an Owner Operator for different out fits, often lower pay per mile, means they cover OTHER costs, your base plates, a bigger fuel surcharge, that kind of thing. I've pulled for a company for awhile that all it did was shuttle trailers around from the factory or surplus trailers from the big haulers to dealerships. Paid 1.65 a mile at the time, but the fuel surcharge was a joke (a whole 10 cents off a gal if lucky) you paid for your own base plates (200 a month that adds up fast) and no discounts on any thing like tires, parts, shop time etc. All of that eats up the huge pay difference really fast. You have to look into what expenses are covered and what isn't covered besides what the pay per mile is.

I think you are selling yourself way too short. You would really drive a truck for $165.00 a day? My guarantee pay for an 8 hour day is $211.92. And that's just for showing up. I haven't worked an 8 hour day that I can remember. Always more. Usually 11.50 to 12.50. If it is less, we still get our guarantee.

Bottom feeders are there for a reason. Sadly, none of those reasons are good for the driver.

The point I was making is that lease programs are a joke especially when they pay 80 cents a mile when you can make $1 a mile running a cargo van. Obviously running a Ford E150 is a lot cheaper than a tractor trailer.

Depends on the work, what good is running less over all miles and sitting more often if the other gets more miles? Not to mention those vans will require more often trips to shop being they can't go as long between services needed and parts aren't designed for as many miles as a big rig so....

Even if you don't wanna put in your time at a bottom feeder.....IMO you would still be better of getting all your endorsements.....could mean the difference between you working sooner rather than later

you really do seem as if you're a tad bit entitled..... I wish you the best, but you might find it harder to get employed with your current way of thinking.... The money you're complaining about to get ALL our endorsements: think of it as investing in yourself!!!!!

Knight is so awesome to work for! You gotta be crazy to turn them down!

My job is so steady! I made $500 this week. What's wrong with that? I just paid my cell phone bill.

Im really happy I work here!

You might want to fire your dispatcher. What terminal are you out of? Most of my weeks
Range between $750 - $1000. Of course I have never turned a load down either so I keep
    rolling too.

...and yet you haven't quit I noticed. Hmmm. They got to be doing something right or your not telling the whole story as to why you haven't quit.
