You don't understand the principles behind levers and fulcrums do you?
    http://www.technologystudent.com/forcmom/lever1.htm

A trailer is a Class 1 or 2 lever. It would depend if the tandem is all the way back or forward of the load. In the OP example, I'd have to guess a Class 1 lever. The trailer tandem IS A fulcrum point and the two pallets on the tail behind the tandems are a counter balance. Remove that 4600# balance and you transfer weight forward as well.

Interesting. NY and PA give me 3% to 4% "grace" and only fine for the amount I'm above the grace. Pretty sure I've even read it somewhere.....either in the FMCSA rules or PA or NY law that they must give 3%. Maybe that grace is because both those states use portables.

A trailer is basically just a teeter totter.

as long as you don't pass the 41' or 40',(in Cal), mark or whatever it is in the states you pass thru.

these can be found in the front pages of the truckers atlas, under " Weight and size limits"

the fine is way more than the over weight ticket.

That's my point....Never trust them....Especially Lumber mills and Scrapyards....

Btw....CDOT could give a crap if you have Certified CAT scale showing you're legal.....

They'll tell you their scales are more accurate....

I know this because I got popped in Trinidad before for being 2K over.....Showed DOT the scale ticket showing I was legal....They gave their spiel......Removed a bore casing....Scaled in Fountain......And hmmm....My gross was 4K under what my original CAT Scale ticket said in Houston.....

    Explain that one.....

Only if you have a split axle or a LCV. Otherwise it's manufacturer specifications in accordance with the bridge formula.

Any business that used a scale to ship product by weight, the scale MUST be state certified.
