I believe a $1 a mile is on the LOW end of what cargo van operators would like to average all miles in, read that deadhead + loaded miles, or hub miles everywhere they go.. Of course very few of them even come with 10 to 25 cents of that.. It's the nature of the beast when it's so cheap and easy to get the equipment, anyone can do it... ...rates reflect that. Honestly I just can't see how anyone would think it'd be a good way to make money. At one time 15 years ago when it was a new niche and no-one was doing it, yeah, there was probably very good money in it. Now every yahoo with zero industry experience thinks it's a great way to make money and see the country yada, yada... Big trucks and straights are bad enough, can;t imagine trying to scratch out a living from a cargo van...

I've attached panthers contract and if you read all their descriptions of service failures and the amount of money they can deduct you'd be
a moron to sign it. I was told "they rarely enforce it" with which I asked why have it then?
They don't consider a traffic accident or breakdown as a good reason for being late.
MY advice would be deal with panther with a Long Handled spoon.
Read it for yourself theres a part where it states you could be paid ZERO dollars.

Talked to another driver I met when I started some years back. He went from hotshot to class 8 and now he has a sprinter van.
He said he makes about 1.06-07 per mile. I think he's with one of the better companies and is retired him and his wife team drive the van.
I asked him and he checked most of the van companies out and said most don't pay that much now. {anther being one of the lower ones.
I ran some imaginary numbers and I just don't see vans as a good option for the O/O the only person I making money is the company in them deals.
    Maybe wrong who knows?

He doesn't "make" over a dollar a mile . That's the rate . There's a lot of deadhead and sitting in a van . He and his wife are paid tourists .

Panther is a good company to start for, and learn the biz. Then, when you're sick of the micromanaging bullcrap, and the fresh-out-of-college neophyte dispatchers, who don't know their arse from a hole in the ground, and waiting on the phone for 15 mins to a half hour for someone to answer, and being told you're running 10 minutes late, when you have 1700 miles to go, and you're taking a small nap, then you can move on to MUCH better things.

First, who ever gave you this agent packet forgot to mention that this is for carriers doing business with Panther, not Independent contractors or those drivers who are fleet drivers. Read the agreement in full, all 18 pages.

I'm thinking about driving the straight truck for Panther as a fleet driver since you don't need experience for the straight truck but on there site it says you need a good work history. I got fired from my last job (non driving job) after 10 months job wasn't for me, will this ruin everything?
