Hey all, recent grad and first time poster. I've been lurking around this site for a while, I love the information around here.

I am currently transitioning out of the military, I'll be heading back to Oregon by April 9th. Right now I have Swift, Schneider, Werner, and US Xpress ready to sign me on and schedule an orientation date.

Out of those four what would you recommend? I've heard so much positive and negative about both of them, which would be the better starter company? Or should I scrap all of them and look for a different company? Thanks in advance everyone.

    mje and Chinatown Thank this.

I drove for Schneider years ago. It was a decent company back in the 90's. I think it would be a good place to start a career at.
All companies are going to have their ups and downs.

Good luck to you and Thank You for your service in the military.

my sugestion would be to first decide wether you want regional or 48 states because all of the company's mention are 48 states company's even if they say they will give you regional i think those 4 company's offer anybody a job i thought the same when werner offered me a job only to find out i was one of over 5000 drivers they always told you everyday that they care just never figured out what it was they cared about for just starting i believe that smaller is better just my opinion

I agree that smaller is better. I'm just looking to get my first year out of the way. I understand everyone kind of has to "pay their dues"at the beginning and I am more than willing to be OTR for a while. I do have a family but I figure I might as well do the OTR while we are still used to me being gone all the time.

    Schneider is good.
System Transport is excellent; check their website.
    Apergis Transportation.
    TWT Refrigerated Services.
    Watkins & Shepard.

There is no such thing as too many applicatons. Ignore "experience required" and apply anyway.

I have so much leave accrued that I sign out on my transitional leave on the 9th of April and will collect a military paycheck until August. I do think I will take a little time off before I jump back into it.

my best job so far i found on craigslist was a small company with 100 trucks left them for a better job i thought only to be disqualifide for a hernia that i have had all my life. and please take time to find the company that you want to drive for this idea of staying for a year is bunk if you don't have accidents and keep your record clean companys will hire you with less than a year experience

    mje Thanks this.
