I just started with them, and, my hair is already turning grey. The pay isn't where it needs to be for flatbedding, but, one thing I'll say that is good about them is great miles. That's about it. Great miles. If you like to go home at least once a month for a few days, good luck with that. I like to go out 6-8 weeks at a time and take a week off. I've talked to drivers at our yard in Nashville that have been out on the road for 8 weeks, and have been trying to go home a month ago, and still haven't made it home. They tell you they try to get you home on the weekends, but, hey. They go 48 states. Weekends home is BS. That ain't happening. I can't tell you how many times I've been stuck somewhere else during the weekends waiting to deliver on Monday.

I don't mind the long periods out at all. I've done 3 months before...but when I want to go home, I want to go home. I got **** to do that I can't do on the road. When they do get me home, it is indeed the weekends, and only for the weekend. This time around, my DM told me that he'd get me home by Friday if not Thursday and out on a Tuesday. Well, Friday I drop the load I got, and well...what do you know. They give me another load to secure and tarp, only to repower with another driver, and take that guy's load on home with me (due when? MONDAY. Which means that if I want to make it on time I have to leave noon Sunday). So, in the end? They lied to me. Therefor the load I got now is going to be two days late as a memo (unless they want to repower it before then). HAHAHAHAHA.

Well, that may just be me and my personal needs/wants. I guess it all depends on you and how you prefer home time. Everything else seems to be alright, other than the DM is more of a messenger than a DM. Not to mention, they won't reimburse you for any gear you may have to buy (like tarp straps, etc). They just tell you to use your own money even though /YOU/ are buying /THEM/ gear to secure /THEIR/ loads. So, you'll just have to make do with what you got...or not at all unless you don't mind spending money on the company. (Isn't the point of being a company driver to make money from them and not the other way around?).

I dare say that I'd much rather go back to being screwed by C.R. England's lease deal than work for this company, but...they don't have a flatbed division. Bleh.

It looks like you are new to trucking. If you are OTR you may have to stay somewhere waiting for a Monday delivery. Not good but, true. If you had to go out with a trainer you are at their mercy as to going home. They are trying to make money and get you ready. Maybe you should try a company like McElroy out of Alabama.

I am otr and I never have a hard time getting home, within reason of course. I run three Weeks out four days home. I work for Schneider pulling tanks. Legit complaint in my opinion.

When I was flatbedding the company bought the tarps, straps, bungees, etc. I was responsible for buying a winchbar, strap roller, steel toed boots, safety glasses, gloves etc. I would have been responsibe for losing or damaging the tarps etc. I mean damaging them beyond repair. If I was really "forced" to buy anything for the company I wouldn't hesitate riting off on my taxes, and/or taking it with me if I left.

My DH worked for SMX, which was bought by Western after Bill Smith left the board(which he did before he died, and apparently the shareholders decided to sell, that's what DH was told, anyway). When it was SMX, you couldn't find a better company...they cared about their drivers, they made money, and they got home...once it became Western, all that ended. DH couldn't get out of there fast enough...horrible company to work for!

CR ngland does have a flatbed div. They pull those Pod boxes...
Seen them running up and down the road. There went the flatbed rates even lower. Thanks CR. Englnd

Every company I have talked to says I am good enough to go solo. Never went with a trainer after orientation. Trainer or no, home time is still rare

They do but that is all they haul are PODS. They only do the easy crap, and nah, I doubt c.r. England's pod division is any good.

Western provides all our gear, but if we break our bungies and need some on the fly we have to use our own money. Personally I think its wrong but that's just me.
