Is this true I heard from a friend that on wednesday night that on I-81 in Virginia is seeing police activity. State Police and DOT are hitting up every rest area and waking up drivers in the middle of their 10 hour breaks and doing inspections. Has anyone heard or seen such activity there in the last day or two?

Virginia has been harrassing truckers in rest areas for decades. Revenue is the name of the game.
aiwiron, WV_Daddys_Girl and landstar8891 Thank this. -
I call BS, well, except for the scales in Northern VA that shares property with the Rest Area, i can see it happening there.. Outside of that I rarely see VSP and DOT in rest areas in the trucking parking area
-
I call BS too except perhaps in cases where drivers pulled into a closed weigh station to take a 10 and didn't get moving out in time. While weigh stations should remain "open" to truckers to use while they're closed ... do so at your own risk and you really should be up and out of there by 6:00 AM or whenever they decide to open up.
-
They only have done that if your parked at the scale rest area, and rarely.
-
Probably a driver parked where he wasn't suppose to be. So he tells the story they are harassing everyone.
-
Some people think that those NO PARKING signs don't pertain to them.

Oh yes I'm glad you said that lol! If you are parked outside the rest area on the access ramps where all the "No Parking" signs are they will DEFINITELY harass you! Virginia HP is BRUTAL on that. As are most of the surrounding states to the North. I see that happening all the time, and when I do see them start I try to say it over the CB. Hopefully the guys can hear and wake up to roll before its their turn for the knock. Unfortunately, alot of them are company drivers with elogs and I'm sure they are just screwed.NavigatorWife Thanks this.

These are the same guys who pull up to the fuel island, don't get any fuel, waddle( weigh about 350 lbs) into the truckstop to get 2 hotdogs a bag of chips, bag of cookies and a 44 oz drink and piss and moan about the cops....
kerosene jockey and x#1 Thank this. -
Va used to be one of the states that enforced a 2hour rest area rule--BUT--not sure if it is cuurent Gov or the one before who put a stop to this--but hasnt happened in quite a while--as for the rest area just outside the 95 northside coop--both sides are also inspection stations--and over the years I have seen them due many things there---BUT--Ive never seen them just go banging on doors
