    MM,

I have had my eye on this Pete for some time. Totaly redone and might possibly be the nicest 359 in existance. I almost bought it. It does not have A/C nor fuel tank heaters, otherwise I think I'd own it now. This link is the original ebaymotors posting and has expired, but I think the gentleman who was trying to sell it still has it. His bottom dollar is $42,000. seems high untill you find out the bucks he's stuck into that rig.

If you need his email address, PM me. For the record, I have nothing to gain here, just trying to offer something I found out while shopping for a truck recently and thought I'd be nice and pass along.

I have sen it. beautiful truck but it needs more wheel base, a bigger bunk and to be honest for that money it would need to be a long hood. I have seen what he's don to it though and it's nothing short of amazing

I figure most anything that goes on a flat can go on the curtain or am I wrong? It would seem even a good bit of van freight could go on there.

I've been reading the Hazmat stuff. Man there is SO much more than when I got mine last time and there is way to many people in this house right now to retain it all. I think I'm headed to the testing station to read it in the parking lot before I go do the test.

it's proving hard to find a decent cheap truck anywhere close to me.

That old Pete would just get my brother all hot to trot!!!!

    But not for that price.

Medicine I can't comment on hauling some of the van freight on a curtainside. That would be some thing you would have to work out. As for your comment on regular flat freight I would assume that you are correct. I don't know why not, unless you were backed into a very small hole and had to crane unload.

I used to figure after 6 months you were an employee and not a worker and that used to terrify me so much that I would quit good leases after 6 months and sign bad ones because I figured it was time to move on. I only came here for 6 months. Not sure if I'm a slow learner or just hang around to see what in the world they are going to come up with next.

I have a “sort of” cost per mile question(s) concerning Landstar.

I’ve noticed that many of the P/U DELIVERY times are extended almost to the point of ridiculous. You can’t make it, I don’t think, pulling a load 1100 hundred miles but having it sit on your deck for 72 hours. Maybe if the load paid $3 per mile but not for $2 per mile.

Question: Can you get these loads off early? Is the delivery a no later than time? If it varies by shipper, can you hazard a guess as to percentage?

The loads in/out sheet for my home area of course had many more van loads than flat, all expected. What I didn’t expect was that the vast majority of the flat loads were short runs. Granted, some of the dollar figures showed up to $4.00 dollars per mile, many at $3.00, and numerous in the $2.00 per mile range for hauling them.

This is all great, at first glance, but if you think a little more in depth you will realize it isn’t what it appears. If you load at 8 a.m. one day and drop at 8 a.m. the next day, your truck has been tied up for 24 and probably 27 hours minimally with unloading time, for what could be $600 in revenue. It may sound good to brag you won’t move for less than (fill in the blank dollars) but the most important part of the profit and loss statement isn’t the C.P.M. but the over all revenue generated minus your expenses (what you actually made).

Question: I haven’t seen a lease agreement/contract from Landstar but am wondering is it a take it or leave it proposition on the loads or can prices be negotiated on some loads? What do they do about you being on time and the receiver taking 3 hours to get the load off your deck?

I think I can make a reasonable living at $1.40 to the truck, providing the revenue averages $600 per day.

Question: Is this doable and likely with Landstar or am I being unreasonable myself?

I've had a lot of agents tell me they just put in a delivery time. Often times they will ask you when you think you'll be there. When in doubt ASK.

I was pulling a flat and didn't have real many hard and fast delivery times.
