I still say it is the guys who are going IN to bad areas too cheap that are the problem, if you want to point your finger at someone. If you go IN to Maine for less than $3/mile with no plan out and then complain about $1/mile rates YOU are the problem. And chances are it is that broker that booked you going IN that fleeced you, not the one booking the $1/mile load coming out.

I'm not sure I understand the question... Do I care who pays my rate? Not really, if I'm getting what I want, the rate I quote, then no, not really... but, If they're quick to pay my rate, then I will definitely be thinking about the conversation that I had with that particular broker, and preparing for the next time we talk...lol...

It's as tough to get me to discount my rate, as it is to try and pry money out of a broker on a Monday morning....lol...

That's not to say it doesn't happen, but it's the rare occurrence when it does...

Somewhat, but those TAKING the $1 mile out of Maine are also the problem. Make $3 mile going in and deadhead out. let the brokers sit on their $1 mile crap and eventually rates will go up to get the stuff moved. granted, every single driver would have to do this and we know that won;t ever happen.... but making $3 mile in is still no reason t justify hauling for $1 mile out of a bad area. I will DH just on principal instead of becoming part of the problem just to cover fuel and expenses. That's why you get the DH money going into the area.

A very old arguement. Say you run the same miles, in and out. 3 bucks in and DH out, you're at a buck fifty for all miles. 3 bucks in, 1 buck out, now you're at 2 bucks for all miles. Like Clinton said, Arithmetic!!! It may suck to come out cheap, but it don't suck as bad as having to pay to come out for nothing.

I agree with you on this point, how much good did it do you to book the fat rate in if you left empty, and without compensation... now, somebody said they factor their deadhead into their rate, and this they calculated as .50cpm for the deadhead miles.... wha?? How is that different from hauling a 15,000 lb load out for .50cpm?? Seriously, if I get $3 going in and $1.50 coming out, (and I can get that buck fifty on a mon morning, a light load, with no problem at all), then who is making money and who isn't???

And as far as Poland Spring goes, I get $2.00 booking it early in the day, not on a Monday mind you, but making money on a Monday is always a challenge, I ain't revealing how much you can get when the closing bell is ringing and they have loads to move.... (hint; it's considerably more than 2 bucks)

If you're going to truck into a tough area you better have an exit strategy...

While driver are busy with the cheap heavy loads i am long gone getting a better load.Just for me it is not worth it.I give them 24 hours for a cheap heavy load.In the end i only make squat for screwing around for at least 24 hours. Not to mention the heavy part...Perfect example..

I unloaded in Albany Ny 2 weeks ago.90 miles away there was a load from Ny to Pa.It was 30,000 lbs and i would have over 24 hours loading, unloading and driving it there. It only paid 2.00 a mile.I said no way..So i left at 7 AM enroute WEST BOUND on 90..

At 4 PM i got a call from an agent and he offered me a load from Buffalo to Detroit for over 2000.00 bucs. Then i got a load out of Perrysburg to Buffalo for over 1,500...You can not get a load out of Mass for over 2,000 going to Detroit.Do you see what i mean...Not to mention the load was 2 pallets...

Do you see what i would of lost if i messed around with cheap arse crap...This is why i am the deadhead KING..

I am beginning to think $2 freight is cheap....

Especially the way some folks whine about rates.
