That sounds like a very good deal for you mikeee.
though when I started, I was looking at the payoff a few years down the road rather than the deal I was getting at sign up. In my case, tuition reimbursement was secondary .. and getting set up for where I wanted to go next was primary.
So when a premium bulk carrier wants 2 years overall t/t and 1 year pulling chemicals/liquid -- and the EXTRA annual pay will more than double (or possibly triple) tuition reimbursement pmts, TI becomes very trivial in the big picture.
is this true? companies will pay back tuition?

Name the carriers paying double or triple pay . You are also asking him to work at Schneider for 2 years at half or one third pay . Not very motivating .
Most tank carriers will hire with one year OTR experience , no tank required -
Rick , I am not asking anyone to do anything , i just said what I was doing

as for naming a carrier that pays 2 or 3 times, you read it wrong .. I even capitalized EXTRA so no one would misinterpret that. I meant the EXTRA pay .. Or the pay raise .. Is 2-3 times the annual TR pmts. I could probably get that right now, but for me .. Personally .. I prefer to not hop around to a different company every 6 months, and instead stay focused on the gameplan .
I've had a small list of 'next' companies in mind since I started at SNBC. They require 2 years exp, one requires 1 year with liquid and 2 years overall. Yes, I could probably get on with QC right now, or in a few more months. But that's slightly better than a lateral move.
Also, I don't think SNBC is a terrible place to spend 2 years. Some don't like it, but maybe I've been lucky? Dunno. -
I way paid $120/month for tuition reimbursement. It only paid off a little more than half of my loan after 22 months but it's better than nothing. I essentially paid $2300 out of my pocket to make $50k/year compared to $0/year so it was well worth it.

Tuition reimbursement is nothing more that a recruitment tool.
If you want/need that extra $150 a month, just find a decent employer that has the miles..RickG Thanks this. -
When I got my CDL in 2005. The school I went to recomended Covenant Transport. I went there and was reimbursed $100 a month for the CDL school I went to. I stayed there for 6 months and yea they gave me $600. If you plan on driving team they are a good company. But if you plan on going solo, I would not recomend them.

Many trucking companies do repay your school cost. However, there is a catch, they pay as long as your are with them. They pay the interest and the payments still continue to accrue. That way if you leave before the time that they said you needed to stay you will still owe the entire amount. Learned this the hard way. Went to Swifts training school in 1996. Didn't stay the full year with them and still owed the entire amount. This is going to sound crazy but, the best thing you can do is sell whatever you have and pay for the school that way. In no time you will be able to buy the stuff again if need be. This way you are free and clear and you may go to another company if you need to. Working with a company is what you make of it. All--ALL-- trucking recruiters paint things in the best light-that the job-so beware. I have worked for companies that people hate and say are horrible-Swift, JB Hunt, they are not so bad if you just realize that trucking is trucking. You wont always be home when they say, you will miss things, you will be angry, you will be frustrated, thats is trucking get over it! I am from a trucking family has been driving since the 50's-it hasnt changed. If you stay flexible and know that stuff happens and that it is what it is, you will be fine and those in the office will know that you are patient and willing to work. You will be rewarded, it takes time but it will happen. I have had awful dispatchers that being patient, calm and not yelling or arguing with them turned them into great ones and I got what ever I wanted. It takes time. You need to know that trucking is not a job it is a lifestyle. Jobs you go home and they dont change every facet of your life and relationships, trucking does nothing will be the same. Remember it is not a job it is an adventure!

companies will pay back tuition with strings attached that recruiters fail to mention. In order for companies to pay is that the school you're attending honors the trucking company you'll be driving for and also, you'll have to be with that company a yr before they pay for your schooling. So when you do go to school you'll be having recruiters come in with applications and tell you what you wanna hear about their company, you make sure to ask them what strings are attached in order for them to pay for your schooling.Recruiters will not give out any extra information unless its to their benefit. One more thing, ask the recruiter if the yr starts the first day of training or does it start once you go solo.

Just to clarify:
In my case I paid cash for my school and that gave me the best options for reimbursement.
