Yeah no kidding. Also don't forget how many scales they think we need. Windsor and Sarnia, now supercoops. Putnam, super coop. Milton, whitby, gananoque, and that other one up before quebec that is never open eastbound. 6 scales in what, about 840 km or so? Ridiculous. Not to mention the interview you get the pleasure of taking when you are unfortunate enough to go through one. They basicly inspect you a little bit at a time without record. Usually a quick check of the log, or maybe tires, perhaps a visual of how your trailer brakes look, maybe your air lines and inspection stickers. If they want money why don't they just put in a tax like NY or Oregon based on how much distance you travelled in that jurisdiction? It would be the same for everyone, reguardless of their MPG their truck gets. I'd have no problem paying that. Just this singling out, one at a time, is crap. Kinda feels like nazi germany ...

Not hard to figure out why the have the # of scales they do
Windsor / Sarnia - Port of entry
Putnam - middle of SW Ontario to catch the short run provincial guys
Milton , Whitby - Catch the Toronto area trucks
Gananaque -Another Port of entry + Eastern Ontario trucks
Not every truck starts in Windsor / Sarnia and runs to the Quebec Border -
All you do when you slow down is get hit in the rear in a whiteout rather than running into someone . Canadian truckers will run up to within 10 ft of your rear bumper before passing even if the lane to the left is clear .
-
So you're saying you'd rather run into someone prior to someone running into you or is this just an anti-Canada rant?
I think you missed the whole get out of the pack message.FLATBED Thanks this. -
another serious accident on the 401 near Kitchener. The news reported it as a truck(everybody assumes a semi) rear ending a car . Turns out it was a uhaul(truck) hitting a disabled auto that was sitting in the granny lane with a baby(deceased) in it . Impaired driving charges for the Uhaul driver but who leaves their wife and kid in the granny lane of a 6 lane hwy.
Regardless- prayers for that family. -
Yeah , another ant-Canadian rant . Obviously they don't teach Canadian drivers what a safe following interval should be because none of them do it .
-
Oh, there are many of us that do. There are also way too many that don't though. If you're just running the 402/401 from Sarnia into the GTA I can see why you would say that. If just ran 80/94 through Illinios and Northwestern Indiana I would probably say the same about U.S. Drivers.
Nonetheless I have found that even on the 401 you can usually get yourself away from the herd without too much trouble.Last edited: Mar 17, 2013

I guess this is the 401 thread .... I'd better save my tailgating stories of the Cross-Bronx Expressway for the I-95 thread ............

That's a fairly broad brush you're using there son. Where were you in June of 1975 when I started on the road? Apparently I coulda learned a lot from an experienced hand such as yourself. Funny how you whine about Canadian drivers yet you claim to be from Owensboro and don't seem to have any experience running 65 from Louisville to Nashville.

And while I agree that there is waaay too many steering wheel holders out here, I blame the large puppy-mill driving schools for that nonsense. You can go from the Mickey D's drive thru to a large orange or off-white truck in less than 6 weeks. YAY! As far as following too close, I would fire the 1st guy I ever caught doing that in my equipment. I take a certain amount of pride in my iron and don't need to replace bumpers, windshields and repaint fenders because some doofus needs to follow too close and sandblast my iron. My 1st instinct, wet or dry roads is to pass the pack of fools as it's always better to watch the crash in the mirrors.
