what's going on with fedex freight?

    I wondered the same, but wasn't there long enough to figure it out.
    Prime does pay the new drivers well though - 46 cents in the division I was in. Some of the large carriers pay us newbs* a lot less, like $30K a year to be out 3 and 4 weeks all year.
    At 55 years old with a mortgage and assorted other debts, I can't live on $30K. Wish I could. ;-)

    *My experience is prior to 2007, so most of the industry considers me to be without any experience whatsoever, including the million miles plus accident ticket free driving i did "waaayyy back" 5 years ago. JB told me I should go back to CDL school.

    I get highway hypnosis easier at 55 mph than 65 mph after hours of driving...

    The truck I last drove was governed 69 mph--yes, I was hauling FedEx Ground Trailers. Backing down to 55 mph from 69 mph make it is seem like I am parked.

    By the way, FedEx Ground assumed us to average 55 mph for our trip. Hence, this may be the reason why all FexG stuff is all flying around like they are on fire.

    Cummins has a nice explanation of why trucks get better mileage at speeds closer to 50 mph than 65 mph.

    The 'Rock Solid Rule' this pdf proclaims is that at 50 mph, aerodynamic drag is a greater factor is leeching engine horsepower than the rolling resistance from tires. For speeds above 50 mph, the aerodynamic drag increases exponentially to road speed.

    I agree with the poster about the loss of 100 miles per 11 hours--if there is another load waiting on one, then one is likely better off dumping the load he or she is currently hauling so that the next can be gotten sooner. Absent this, I guess the Prime way is more profitable.

    That 25 mph speed limit on Homestake is pretty ridiculous though. Even northbound 5 over the grapevine is posted at 35 and that seems like a steeper descent.

    Hah, you basically just described ABF. I don't see going on strike as a very good option anyway. They saw what happened to Oak Harbor when they tried that. Turns out you can just hire scabs or rookies to do the job...maybe not as well but well enough.

    those fedex ground guys FLY past me like im standing still, i had a truck that did 70 and i was pulling a van (wont do doubles that fast) and here comes FDX ground FLYING by me like im stading still...

    Are the FDX Freight trucks on roids? on the mountains majority of our trucks cant pull on the hill and they seem to handle them ok, most of them are Kenworths

    I'm assuming they got the Cummins ISX 450, that engine is a masterpice.

    Thats also why so many fdx ground trucks are rolled over all the time between Chicago and NYC.

    Has to be, my first peddle truck had a cummins in it, 2nd had a cat, both were real beasts. Our volvos with the volvo DD12's are so gutless. The DD13s are ok. Sometimes you will get treat and have a nice detroit in it

    Need info,FXF in Madison,Al needs 2 drivers and one driver apprentice position, I have no driving experience so i`m going to apply for the Driver App job. Can anyone tell me if this is a good ideal?
    I talked to the SM and he said they were real busy.Thanks!
