Say Hi to Hawk for me,great instructor!
I'm an August 2010 grad from IITR Clackamas, had a good experience there.
Driving local now in a Walsh chip truck and life is pretty good.
I think IITR is about as good as a 4 week program is going to be,keep in mind what they teach is not how to be a truck driver but rather how to get your CDL.
Once you graduate and have a license you'll have to find a company that hires student drivers and that is where the learning to be a truck driver really begins, much of what you learned in school won't really apply a great deal in the real world.
Once you get out there you'll know what I mean.

CL13-2 , I would send anybody ther! (almost anybody) As long as they want to be a trucker that is.
The senior drill instructor ( DI ) is hard ,but fair. He does'nt disgrimenate, he dislike's all none hackers who do not love the double clutch art! You will learn to hate him and "the Beast" , but you will learn to love them both.
The other two chuckle heads are preety cool also! They will pick you up , put your head back on and send you back in again for more.Last edited: Mar 19, 2013

Schneider hires new drivers right out of CDL school or their tanker school.

I see Walsh trucks where i live here in Newport everyday and in Toledo at Georgia Pacific. Some of the cleanest chip trucks I've ever seen.
All automatics? My buddy drives for Bettendorf between Albany & Corvallis.Last edited: Mar 19, 2013

Most of the trucks are either auto-shift 10 spds or Allison 6 speed full auto, the newer ones are all Allisons.
There are a few 10 spd manuals left out there but not many,I drove one for a while about a year ago.
I was just down to Toledo a little over a week ago, took a stroll at Moolack Beach to stretch the legs, was hauling from Willamina.
I see the Bettendorf trucks down in Halsey a lot and a few up in Longview,WA. -
Y2K, what are your thoughts on the auto's? I've only driven a late model 12 yard dump truck that was an auto, and it was nice for driving from Newport out to a dump site just north of town on 101. No real weight to speak of compared to what you're pulling every day!! I wondered how an auto tranny would do with weight like wet chips, up and down hills and such. My Bettendorf buddy runs every night from the 2 Georgia Pacific's in Philomath to Toledo and on occasion runs up to the G.P. in Camas Washington and down to White City or K-Fall's. He's getting plenty of hours and his pay is good. He would have gone to work for Walsh, but the Bettendorf yard was closer to his house. I think he's itching to go back out on the road.
Navajo is processing his application right now, and if they offer him a job, he's gone. Single dude, no kids and a sort of girlfriend. We are considering getting a couple of Pete's and our own authority in a few years and doing our own thing. Stay safe! -
I actually like the full auto, super nice backing up and they go like stink from the stoplights lol.
I had one when I was on night shift slip seating with a day driver, now on days I have an older truck (all to myself) with the autoshift 10,the autoshift is a POS pretty much lol but you get used to it.
Wish I had a 13-18 speed but it does the job I guess,I've been as heavy as 126,000 lbs and got down the road ok with it.
