Is college considered when the employment history is looked at? I Enrolled in Oct-2010. Received an Associates Degree Nov-2012, two months after starting current job. So there was no gap there at least.

Have you considered driving a truck in Mexico?
randal02lee, mje and joseph1135 Thank this. -
Yes it is, that will help big time! For a new CDL-holder, you need to verify 3 years of work history so you'll probably need a notarized letter from a friend (non-relative) for the first part of 2010 explaining that you were a homemaker (and not employed in a DOT-regulated industry, nor were you awol at some iranian religious academy).

Just out of curiosity, how old are you? Are you in good shape? Do you have a high school diploma or GED? Are your wife and kids on board with this? Are you sure they are, or are they just telling you what you want to hear. :smt056
mje Thanks this. -
I have a high school diploma. I'm in good physical shape. My family is on board, The kids only care about wanting to ride along lol. My wife is thrilled that I'll finally be doing what I've wanted to do since I was a child. And I'm 33 years old. Side note: The criminal charges happened when I was 22 and all at the same time. I'm not really seeing the history or "pattern" as Swift called it.

As a survivor of violent crime, you must excuse my lack of sympathy for it, even being 10 years old. And you should be commended on being crime free for eleven years, although the majority are crime free for the beginning. I think you'll agree, the government is not a good judge of character. They used to think bin Laden was a swell guy too. I hope you accomplish a lot, but I'm going to be honest and put my feelings about it aside. Trucking is probably not in the cards for you. Without much of a work history and your convictions, you are a hard sell to a company. In their eyes, nothing about you looks stable. Maybe if you work in a different field for a year, that will give you a bit of stability that they are looking for and you may be in luck. Swift has told you no already, and we are in a period where people aren't jumping for trucking jobs because the economy is finally stabilizing. If you truly want to truck, get a job and hang on to it for a year. You've already got the CDL, that's a start at least.mje Thanks this.

Try western express, covenant, & us xpress. Wherever you go, do everything possible to stick it out at least a year before moving to another company (don't need to come off as a job-hopper too).

Thank you for putting your personal feelings aside. I'm not sure if you are reading my posts or not, but I do have a job. I work as a Direct Support Professional working directly with children with developmental disabilities. I have been doing this for the last 6 months since right before I graduated college. So with that and college there has been no gap for 2 years and 5 months. And residence history I have been at the same address for 7 years.mje Thanks this.

Personally, I would try sticking with a single employer for a couple more years. To build a stable job history. The criminal convictions are 10+yrs old... and that will help. However, the lack of a stable job history is what will really hurt you right now.
mje Thanks this.
