If throwing away the start ( a good one) of a good education for the life of a beginning truck driver is bettering themselves. I missed something. If leaving your wife and kids to live as they may without you being there is bettering yourself. Again, I missed something. Add to that all the problems from his past that may or may not haunt him. Why shouldn't he get all the opinions and options put on the table?mje, NavigatorWife and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this.

I ####### love how everyone on here acts as Saints. You know the difference between him and a lot of us is that we got lucky and didn't get caught. Truck drivers are notorious for tooting their own horn and trying to portray themselves as angels to society.
Realistically the only thing holding you back is lack of employment. Stick with your Job and try again on a few yearssuperpet39, KingTrucker, kerosene jockey and 5 others Thank this. -
I have worked with a number of guys who were felons and had turned their lives around.
Some just ended up that way through circumstance.
Some of the best workers I have known.
Given a few a chance who just could not change even though I gave them every opportunity.
I am now a business owner and have partners in a couple of other businesses and I tell you there are business owners who I think should be locked up because of their practices.
To answer the OP , it takes a lot of work to evaluate a past criminal.
By nature criminals are often chameleons and not easy to read.
It is just easier to go with straight laced folk who don't have a history.
It an upstream paddle with a history but I find people with a history that they have turned round are often tougher , able to think for themselves and loyal.
In the correct placement I would give you a go if you interviewed good in person.kerosene jockey and mje Thank this. -
That's kind of
what I was thinkingmje and kerosene jockey Thank this. -
after 11yrs i would say you deserve a chance, but most companies will shy away because they see the past as a future liability.I wish you the best of Luck.I really think a small company is going to be your best bet if you can find one that'll take you as a newbie
kerosene jockey, mje and superpet39 Thank this. -
Also although I do not like suggesting them you should try local moving companies

I think you are going to have a very tough time getting hired on anywhere. If I were in your shoes I would have looked into this before going to school. Don't listen to the recruiters they will tell you anything you want to hear to get you to sign up for school!
NavigatorWife, mje, Down the road and 1 other person Thank this. -
Your work history isn't the thing that will hold you back, I've read posts on here from guys who were out of work for a couple years, and they just had to get a notarized statement telling what they had been doing the time they weren't working - this is a federal govt. requirement by the way, the companies are required by law to account for this time. It's your criminal history that will prevent you from getting into trucking, period. I think your time would be better spent looking for something else to do for a job.
mje and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this.
