Soon the fun begins, and Soon Ill need a Mentor

    Hey all,

    Long time reader, first time poster. I am a Memphis native, and I have just been given the confirmation I will be beginning my CDL studies at Millington next week on the 18th of March. :yes2557: It will be nice to finally get this ball rolling after three months of ensuring I have everything I need, while having life throw curve balls at me.

    I was wondering if there are any recent graduates from the Swift boot camp who have any advice for the current flow of things? Or ways to make the time more enjoyable and memorable?

    Also in preparation for the end of my studies, I was wondering if there are any Swift mentors lurking about who will be around Memphis in about three weeks who would be willing to take me on as a student? I ask so that I can avoid taking a chance on a bad mentor, and be better prepared to hit the road when I finish orientation.

    Good luck with it all. I graduated from the Lewiston, ID academy about 6 weeks ago. Let me know if you have any specific questions. Keep a positive attitude and have fun. It's a great experience and without a doubt you will make some new friends.

    I started with Swift in 96'. They are not a bad company. Best advice I can give you is to be patient. You will be tested dont give into the tempation to blow your top. Trucking is not easy but it is fun. Depending on your atitude. If you have been reading this for a while you will see that. It is all what you make of it. I was told by a very wise man that getting angry is pointless. I asked why he said,"You are usually the only one angry, and no one else really cares why, so whats the point of being angry and making yourself miserable?" He is right since I dont let things bother me and my attitude is now- it is what it is_ I don't have many problems with dispatch and/or shipping receivers. A smile that never goes away makes a huge difference with people. I am not a Swift guy anymore but, if you need to vent and need a different perspective inbox me and I will do what I can to help. Trucking is not a job it is a lifestyle and an adventure.
