Experienced driver looking to go back OTR.

That's not really funny it is insane that an insurance company thinks that is right .I have a long time otr but been in the office the last 5 years hope it lasts as I would have the same problem.

 

Totally INSANE.But these pencil pushers think they know it all about trucking..

 

If you have a good driving record and experience you might want to apply to NASTC members. They are small carriers and like experienced drivers.

Most small companies cant hire you because the insurance companies wont cover a driver who has no full time driving experience in the last 5 years. Your probably gonna need to go back to a big company for 6 months and then jump into a better company. The big companies self insure and this can take newbies.

 

Yep, get those type of drivers all the time. They can do it all, know it all, but when you ask them how to work the qualcomm, HOS, or other company specific things, they know nothing. That is why most companies require a couple of weeks with one of their trainers. And you never know what new, safer habits they might pick up in that period.
Kinda like talking to my boy about safe driving practices. "I know dad, I know" is all I hear. But when I have hime drive me someplace a lot of bad driving habits show up. Everybody has room for improvement and sometimes I learn something new from being with my students. Just sayin...

 

I know it.It's stupid.Just give the guy a road test,if he passes give him the keys and send him on his way.Heck with the training.

 

I'm having the same problem.According to In.BMV,federal law states that if u haven't had a cdl physical or did not drive for 1yr,u must take the written and the driving test....
