Hitting black ice on I94, around Portage Indiana, at 4AM. Road seemed clear, I was doing about 55, as was everyone else, when I suddenly saw headlights coming AT me. Car about 50 yards or so in front of me had spun, and was facing east in my westbound lane. Two or three others had joined him. Turned the wheel, and I started to lose it. But then I caught some dry pavement, and was able to get around 'em on the right shoulder, still doing around 50 or so. I was shaking for about 20 miles after that!
What made you most nervous?

These are all some amazing stories!!! Sure gives us a lot to think about! The one message I hear from you all is to keep a cool head, regardless the situation. I will most definitely keep all that has been said here in the forefront of my mind! I thank all of you for your time!

I wasn't real happy when I had bad directions in New Orleans last week. Would have been nice if they had given me an actual addy and not just a street. Would have been better if the street would have been correct. Even better if the shippers phone no. was an actual working number. Would have been a real plus if they told me the street that I was to turn on was named a different name and would turn into the street I needed 5 blocks down the road. Of course I had XM radio on and they was saying New Orleans has more murders than any other city in the US. Up 30 % since katrina. Nice place if you are not dragging a spread axle around downtown looking for someplace to pull over to re-group and figure out what your next move is.

scariest, having my first car cross the line on me.
general nerve racking.... being lost.
best advice... go over the hill real slow.... some of those guys flying might be empty or have half your weight on board...
and two... if you're getting nervy or having a hard time backing up, turn off the c.b. and go grab a spotter. guys really won't mind all that much helping out.... and some of the idiots yelling on th c.b. are trying to get you rattled or in trouble... -
Hooker knocking on the door always scared me!!!
lol, that's just not right

Bad directions is not something you want in downtown New Orleans. All them tiny little roads, narrow and one ways.
I pick up an MRI scanner that was set up right on the corner in front of the college hosp, right across from the super dome. It practically took an act of congress to get that thing out of there. Had to get police to close roads so I could go the wrong way down them and of course you can make any turns since the streets are so narrow -
Yeah, as one who spent alot of time in N.O. playing music, it's really not a bad city to be in. The murder areas are very small particular areas that you want to stay out of. Downtown and the French Quarter is not bad. Anyone can walk the streets there, but it's a hell hole for big trucks. When most of those street were laid out, it was for horse and buggy traffic. I've driven a tour bus through most parts of N.O. and that ain't fun. I can't imagine a big truck going downtown. And watch it if you have to cross Street Car Tracks. They will run your butt over, although they would probably brake for a semi.

my scariest?
besides having my yahoo brother about get us killed in a pos ih dump in the elkhorns...ok in his defence we hit ice, trailer and backhoe were up on on side at about a 45, going around a corner....he mashed on it and brought it back down....ill never understand how we didnt crash
when i first started otr, still with a trainer runnin from salt lake into idaho....roads were nice and dry until the top of a hill, then it got real slick...i admit i was goin faster than i should have, but watching a orange truck ride the white line while his trailer was over the yellow and catchin up fast...about skerred my trainer an me outta our wits -

Note to self...avoid New Orleans if possible!
That's some scary stuff.... -
