Some one told me that the dot doesn't check the millage for when your daily travel distance. So, you can drive on duty and mark three hours on duty.

rule of thumb for driving hours vs. miles driven 65 mph x the time you drove,yes the dot will check miles traveled against your time driving.

Um...NO...if you get pulled over and your on the on duty line not the drive line, your SOL. Also if you average over the state speed limit they can right you a speeding ticket.
That being said, many drivers will slow to 5 miles per hour and traffic and switch themselves off duty. Depending on the company it doesn't switch back to driving until a mile or a certain speed. That is however iligal although unless pulled over while off duty you probably wont have a violation. -
If you drive past midnight though, it confuses the heck out of DOT and u can fudge a little more. (if running paper)
