I used to have a 2005 Int. 9400i Cat Acert C-13 engine with dual turbo. Engine had alot of issues with overheating and both turbos were around $7,000. One fuel injector was $500.00. Dont know what you mean with cat mxs?

Mr.Haney is the one to ask. I ran an 07 550 Cat with the Acert engine , for about 5 years . They are a good , strong engine , but like all engines , they have their problems. And , with a Cat , they can be expensive problems.
You can't PM Mr. Haney yet , I think , but search him , he has plenty of posts. Post a reply with his name in it , he might see it.That will also give you an idea about that engine. He's not on here everyday , but he'll get back to you. -
Someone saw you coming to charge you $7000 for the turbos, they are more like $1500 each. MXS is the prefix for the engine serial number, so your 05 could have been a BXS or an MXS, an 07 would be a NXS I believe, and an 08 or newer would be a nightmare.

Our fleet used the double turbo Cats for a while.. aside from the poor fuel mileage, maintenance was a lot more costly than the detroits we now run... and the Mercedes what they "lemoned" fleet for.

Thanks for all the info. How long do they last. never had a cat before my pre egr Detroit went to a million two before complete inframe hoping the kitty will do the same

Choose carefully when dealing with either a C13 or a C15, Cat has gotten sued over the problems that they have caused. Fleets have lost a lot of money on them, but the good news is that the aftermarket and a few enterprising individuals have come up with solutions for them. I talked to Caterpillar about the things that go wrong with them, and the first thing that was mentioned was the upgraded studs for the rocker shaft assemblies ( my memory is a little fuzzy, been a long weekend ). Costs a 1000.00 to do parts and labor. Then there's the whole issue with the VVA's and the ACERT system in general. With those miles, you better be thorough in the inspection.
I had driven a 9400 with an ISX and a 10 speed, Eagle spec, and I liked the truck in general except for the problems that popped up on the motor. I like the Cornbinders because of the overall balance cost wise, it's just fighting through the engine problems that every truck is going through that makes it rough sometimes.Last edited: Mar 24, 2013

I like the truck its clean runs smooth no blow bye just waiting on the bank now . I'll see about posting some pics when i get it also im leasing on with landstar and they want me to get what they call a Landstar inspection. Is this just a normal dot or what
-
I am sure that it would be a normal dot inspection, there are plenty of LS operators on here that could answer that for you. I think you will be happy with the cat, just keep your rpms as low as possible all the time and it will get good fuel mileage. What do you plan on pulling, a van or platform trailer?
