Truck driving is not for everyone. It requires a passion, dedication, hard work, problem solving, patience, and a lot of common sense. If its not working out for you, no one will think less of you for choosing a different career - many can't handle it, and there's nothing wrong with that.
But just because your upset about the way things are going for you personally doesn't mean you should jump online and tell everyone how horrible trucking is, because for most of us, it's not that bad. Many of us love it.
Maybe I'm being too preachy, and some of the guys on here may tell me so. But I'm just
glad I didn't see threads like this when I was considering getting into trucking, because it has been the best decision I have ever made, and it completely changed my entire life for the better.
Good luck in whatever your choose to do.

Well said, but may I also add that if you are LACKING in even just ONE of those traits, you're going to have problems. And I might also add that you need to be able to deal with a variety of people and personalities and not be prone to getting angry easily, if so, you are going to be stressed out or jailed inside of a month.Cranky Yankee, mje, LaBubba and 1 other person Thank this.

Lol, if I had a dollar for every time I wanted to punch a warehouse manager square in the nose, I could drive for .00 per mile and still be rich

Welcome to trucking Europe style, where tachographs (elogs) are a fact of life, and yes, taking your resets in industrials estates with no amenities occurs very often, it's so strict that to move your truck 1 yard during that reset means you gotta take it all over again, you can't drive your truck to let's say wash it on a Sunday , you cant drop your trailer and bobtail home if its outside your hours and they make no allowances for things like traffic or weather considerations , they will come to North America so try resist them as long as possible

makes you wonder how many times a warehouse manager wanted to punch a BillY Big Rigger square in the nose.

Fair point! I'm sure some of those warehouse managers are jerks because all they do is deal with jerk drivers all day and aren't expecting one who is polite.Pmracing, FLATBED, LaBubba and 1 other person Thank this. -
Many of you don't really see that the " doom and gloom" attitude is pervasive throughout society. Not just in trucking. Some one who latches onto that attitude easily will have it wherever they work. I used to work in a meat packing plant in Sioux Falls, SD. Every single day I heard people crying about how it sucked to work there. Every day was another person insisting the plant was gonna close and leave everyone unemployed. Ask many reefer drivers....John Morrell is still there 20+ years later. Things change, times change....but the " doom and gloom" so common in this country isn't gonna help. Optimism, ingenuity, hope, drive, determination etc are gonna fix things. No whining, crying defeatist attitudes are gonna do anything but make things seem worse than they really are.

It is one if the ugliest occupations going, and has gotten worse every year for the past 35 years! Anyone considering it, I attempt to talk them out of it. The 100% plus turnover rate does say something, it says that the majority are being scre*wed by the carriers in one form or another. One doesn't mind all of the BS involved, as long as they are being compensated properly!
Puppage Thanks this.
