How many small fleet owners do we have on here? Do you want your own sub-forum?

I used to be one, if that counts for anything. My grandiose fleet of two trucks.

From responses so far, the most common fleet sizes are 2, 20+, then 6-10. Is there enough in common between fleets of those sizes to have useful discussions?

Regarding privacy, I had assumed there would be a big push for a forum to be Private (only verified fleet owners can read and post) from fleet owners. But instead, the responses from fleet owners is almost universally for Semi-Private (everyone can read, but only verified fleet owners can post).
Non-fleet owners favor Public (everyone can read and post), with Semi-Private close behind.

I'm going to run this poll another few days and see what additional responses come in. I tend to give more weight to the responses that come in during the first 24 hours, because I know that includes the members who visit daily, and the daily members' participation determines whether new categories survive.

I would think someone with a few trucks would be way too busy to play around on here.

I have gotten a lot of help on making the move to being a multi-truck carrier from contacts on Linkin. But several have lurked here but didn't feel there was a spot here for them to contribute. It may take some time but a semi-private forum that is heavily moderated (keeping threads on track). Maybe broaden the membership base to include some experts on insurance, compliance, finance, etc.

Maybe start it with some blogs on key topics. And then reach out to key people in the industry to make comments.

i know several small fleet owners and many of them have been very helpful to me with my 1 truck. i would say im against the sub forum. if you make it privet i think a wealth of knowledge is kept from everyone. and as mentioned before if you don't make it privet they may be bombarded by people looking for jobs. more topics that help share knowledge might be missed on both sides between both o/o's and fleet owners.

My vote is to make a forum, but make it semi-private. We've had a huge learning curve when we first started years ago, but we had family, FIL, BIL that contributed greatly. Pops also has 30 years experience. The reason why i vote yes, is that, as has been said, we come up against different issues that might not apply to O/O or co drivers.

Regulatory, DOT, Driver retention, taxes and invoicing, to fleet maintenance. lease vs. buying etc. etc. etc.

Another issue is also that most of the time I'm in the office taking care of business and try to come here to see anything worthwhile discussing. I usually hang out at the Garage as that is where the rubber meets the road, you can have all the best paying freight, but if them trucks not running properly, you aint getting too far. :D Same for drivers.

I would also like to see if we can have a reciprocal agreement with other small fleets for repairs that won't gouge the pocket. I realize this might not happen as insurance might not cover other trucks repaired. Say I'm broke down in PA and the gent that posted from there can give me a hand with repairs, not free, but in a timely manner. Now say one of his trucks breaks down in GA and I can also lend a hand.

just a few thoughts.. now back to making calls. lol.

I thought that is why we have a Owner/Operator forum.
