Make sure you look for "peak" and "continuous" ratings. You're more concerned with "continuous". This is pulled from the manual for "PowerDrive 300 watt" inverter

I used two separate 12v inverters for my 19" lcd tv and xbox 360, i think they were 400w and never had any problems with them.

Plug in inverters are only good for certain electronics. Ive blew 3 cobra 450's up trying to run my laptop. I even melted the plug on one of them. It depends on the device itself. Not every TV/Laptop draws the same amount of power. The 450 runs my wife's laptop fine. Mine, if it doesn't fault within the first few seconds it will burn up within the hour. I did this with a penske truck I had when mine broke down what you need to do is as someone said above. Look for a pre drilled hole, buy a 1500watt inverter, wire it in to the battery, and before you go to a terminal unhook it. Most of your shop guys either wont notice or wont care. That's my understanding from hearing former mechanics talk anyway. I forgot to unhook mine in the penske truck, and took it into penske for service, they never said a word. Infact the truck had a battery issue and they replaced the batteries and hooked my inverter back up for me.

Here's a good list to give you a rough idea of wattage usage.

I don't agree with his fridge. My dorm fridge/freezer used 170 watts starting and cruised on 70 watts. And that's less than 10 minutes a hour run time.DoneYourWay Thanks this.
