Managing time is a very big part in making the big money in trucking. Does anybody know any tricks or have any advice on managing time on the road? I'm curious on how not to have to do resets cause sitting when I can be making money sounds stupid(specially if I'm not at home).

I believe I have a pretty good idea of it just not sure and I'm pretty sure this thread will help somebody. How many hours a day do you try to stick too so you don't have to do resets? I would say that since you get 70 hours in 8 days(am I right about that so far?) that you could drive about 8 to 8 and a half hours a day to get right to that 70. It sounds easy but I know its not that easy, you have to consider when you have to get the load there and time zones.

Pickup and delivery times often keep you from running any less than the maximum, so you make it up the next day or when you can. 8.75 times 8 days is 70 hours.

A 34 hour reset at present amounts to sitting for your 10 plus a full day off in the US; in Canada, it is 36 hours.

I do 10(ish) hrs a day and run a couple of short days to rebuild the "bank" of hours. I'd preffer to take a 34 (catch up on chores, etc) but GTI seems to think that requires a human sacrifice.....

You will make more miles using a reset. Running recap, you can only average 8.75 hours/day (maximum 61.25 hours/week). Under current law, the maximum hours/week using a reset is 82. Under the new hos the maximum hours/ week using a reset is 70.

    At a 55mph average speed, that's ~4500 miles/week possible resetting under current law, ~3800 miles/week under upcoming law, & ~3400/week running recap.

Even if the hours/miles were the same, I'd rather have a full day off each week rather than an extra couple hours each day, but to each his own.

yeah and remember that reset gives you the opportunity to look over your truck"DO NOT LOG THAT !" and really get an idea of anything going south, plus you can wash your clothes shave and shower and maybe even get a little rest. Resets aren't bad you just have to learn to do it right and effective. I'll run with you and do the reset and still be ahead in money after a month. I've done it with another rookie over a two week period and I beat him every time we ran like that. playing the guessing game is a losing way to play. But they are right between 9 to 10 hrs daily and you should be good. now when you get caught in traffic and the 9th hour your done though .

If you work for a company that uses Elogs, you will learn time management very quickly, because if you don't, it gets into your paycheck fast. Personally, I made average $65K per year using Elogs and only worked 11 months a year.
