I have had to defend against such a case. Did a clutch for a "friend" back in 1990.
It wasn't hard to win it either. Considering I showed the judge the manual I worked out of as well as the receipt for my parts vs the other shops.
Even they claimed I was incompetent. The judge saw I wasn't and ruled in my favor.txnewbee and Container Hauler Thank this. -
As long as Freightliner will give you the supporting documentation then that proves the original mechanic DID in fact not do the job he was paid to do. Their are expectations of the job being done right and he did not live up to those standards. Take him to court but be prepared to never get any money.

doesn't show that they did anything. Just a worn out bolt hole. (devils advocate is all).

The other pics I have are pretty much of missing bolts on the transmission while still hanging on. I will have freightliner give me detailed bill and if I can get written account of what they found.

You'd likely be better off just getting the mechanic to go to court with you. And tack that days wages on to the settlement for him as well.txnewbee Thanks this.

How about sew your own clothes? Roof your own house? Grow your own food? There's plenty you could do yourself, if you just had the time. But saying you should fix it yourself or not own it is just dumb. I can see doing simple things, but the real problem here is that the OP needs to find a reliable shop.MNdriver, bdinkyboy1 and ColumbiaBoB Thank this.

I think nukec265's point was that some mechanical ability would help someone to recognize a bad shop when they see one. For example, I would have avoided this shop as soon as they said it would take 3 days, or at least had it towed somewhere else after that third day.
Knowing a little about roofing would help to recognize a bad roofer, too, for that matter. Especially after a day or two. Knowing a little about sewing helps me avoid buying jeans that will fall apart in weeks.
Also, it's hard to sell someone muffler bearings or blinker fluid if they have a clue.Container Hauler and heavyhaulerss Thank this.
