Sounds like a legitimate concern. I myself hate some bridges as well like the one crossing out of Illinois into Missouri on 62. Narrow bridge over the Miss river. Best thing is not to think about it too much and look straight ahead. You are not alone on this one,but don't worry it will be fine. Easier said than done, but it's part of the business. You will be fine.

I just finished CDL school on Feb 1st myself, & after training (including out on a trainer truck 4 weeks), & will finish only my 1st week out solo tomorrow. So obviously, I'm sure much more experienced folks will be chiming in with much more helpful info.

That said, I can offer this bit of help. One of the first days driving out on the road during CDL school, our instructor pointed out that both of my classmates would do the same thing each time they began crossing a bridge --- they'd move over almost on top of, if not actually on, the center line. The instructor then told us that as we approach a bridge, just look at the white line on the right side of the road. If it's straight going onto the bridge, then the road is just as wide on the bridge as is before the bridge, & there's no need to move over, even if the guard rail makes you think you need to. That little helpful hint can provide some peace of mind at times.

 

Stay out of Texas ...

 

You'll learn to adapt. Or else traveling up I77 from Fancy Gap into Virginia will make life more interesting for you.

 

You beat me to it..lol!! Just left Dallas yesterday and the first thing i thought of was the bridge from 635 south getting onto 30 east.

 

I80 over the Allegheny River looking down on Emlenton, PA is one of my faves. I too was skeered of bridges but you get used to it.

 

Yeah hehehe the susquehanna bridge in Maryland on 95 on a windy day when you're empty you'll love too since there's no real guardrails or beams just that short tiny concrete barrier and it's a loooooong way down to the water lol soon as you clear the treeline coming on the bridge youll immediately know the wind is blowing. it'll be fine you'll get used to it and it'll be a non-event. The one mention above in emlenton on 80 is really cool too. You're going to have so much going on dealing with idiot 4 wheelers and driving the truck you won't even notice it after awhile. You'll look back in a few months a laugh about worrying about it. Personally I love the bridges. The higher and longer the better but that's just me. Except when it's windy lol

 

Bridges aren't that narrow in Texas... But yes stay out of Texas...
