Company I work for treats me and the equipment that way.

LOL. 14 hours a day? I spend more time with my grandbabies than my truck.

Good for you. Most drivers spend more time with their truck than anything else.

this guy isn't dreaming, he's on drugs, whatever good drugs they are, maybe he needs to let the rest of us know

The last one that I remember bragged about having a dream turned out to be a nightmare.

What? Striker and Johnboy, do you love driving poorly maintained equipment, being paid for only 90% of the miles you MUST drive to deliver the load, being lied to frequently by dispatch and anyone else you have to work with? If so, I understand why you are so delighted with the trucking industry as it is. It is that attitude that maintains the status quo against progress in the trucking industry. Try reality. It is a lot better than Darnitol.

my tractor that I drive every day is the same one in my avatar, it's a 2009 model 409,000 miles on it, my last one was a 2000 model that was traded off in 2008 with 978K on it. Has received a CVSA inspection sticker in each of the last 3 Roadcheck events, gets an oil change every 15,000 miles or 350 hours, which ever comes first. Get's washed every two weeks, or more frequently if I decide to pop for a wash. The lights work, the tires are inflated properly and checked by me every other day, if I find a flat or low tire it's repaired immediately, even if I have to wake the boss up at 1 am and drag his butt to the shop. In fact, in a pinch, I can turn off the building alarm and get bulbs, or any other part I might need from the shop in the middle of the night, or take it to the truck stop and have it repaired no questions asked. I'm paid on a percentage basis for all work beyond 150 air miles of Denver, including detention pay after two hours, I get 30% of whatever the company charges the broker for the load. Generally, I make more by percentage than a similar driver does on mileage for the same run, even if it's hub miles. My dispatcher doesn't have the ability to lie to me very much, since there's only 3 people who run the company, and I sit in dispatch every afternoon with them drinking a cold beer or soda before going home, and thus am able to see the dispatch board, I have a pretty good idea as to what is going on. Oh, and yesterday, they spec'd my new tractor, which will be ordered in July as a 2014 model, for delivery sometime in October. Also, generally only work a 12 to 13 hour day, 5 days a week, sleep in my own bed next to my wife (or yours if she's in the mood), eat dinner at home, have medical, dental and life insurance, only spend maybe 2 nights a month in the truck.
