I hear what you're saying but if you don't have the money to get back home what do you do.What werner should do is inspect every trk before cgiving the previous driver their final check and if need be charge that driver to have the trk professionally cleaned. That's what my company does. They keep the final check untill after inspecting the trk.

Some folks will not find my comments pleasant, that being said....No matter the industry, no matter the employer, a potential employee should at least try to find out something about the company that they want to work for. Doesn't matter if it is a Lawn Service, a sales position, a burger joint or a transportation company. There are too many ways to find out something about a perspective employer. What I mainly see on most of these post are people who have not done any research what so ever, and then want all of us to feel sorry for them because they went to work for a B.F.I. and it didn't turn out well.

Very true.Sometimes theres certain things you don't find out about a company till you get there. When I was with Werner, yes they was'nt the best, but what starter company is.Back then the shop cleaned the trks for the next driver and the new drivers got new trks.Guess like everything else in this industry always changing for the worst, cleaning the trk is the next drivers responsibility with this company.

The problem is many for many new drivers this is the last hope they have. What ever job they had before went away and they come to trucking without any kind of money in their pockets.

I was young once ( I think) and I never had 2 dimes to rub together. If I had of gone to a company and it didn't work out I wouldn't have had money to get home either. The difference I believe between now and then is that there wasn't a proliferation of companies that were pouncing on new desperate drivers. Seems all these companies now feel it's OK to treat a new driver any way they want. You're desperate, broke, and they know it.

I agree 100% with your post;but would like to put another "twist" on it and hope to do it reasonably tactfully. I got a late start into this "Trucking thing" age 44 or so,as circumstance and coincidence allowed it. The "short" of it is my wife and I decided to split, kids were all grown, and the sawmill I was working at was having financial troubles. I did not want to go back to flat-roofing at 44 years old so....

I took a Straight Truck job which consisted of driving 100mi to the Twin Cities and back everyday. Actually not a bad job and I was reasonably happy doing it. Where I was working there were also 3 semi's with 6 curtainside trailers and one of those drivers broke a hip falling out the back of a trailer on a run..Management knew I had a "A" license and told me 'Guess what your doing tomorrow'.:biggrin_2556: The Big Trucks only went within a radius of 250mi and I found I liked that..A LOT!! Well the driver's hip eventually healed and the Straight truck did not look so good to me..Where am I going with this..??

Well..I decided then I wanted to be a Long-Haul Truck driver..Although my oldest brother has been an Owner-Op since 1976 at that time we hadn't said a word to each other for 12 years-so he was no help...

I therefore knew NOTHING of the "Trucking World" was not computer literate (barely am now) knew nothing of TTR or that Trucking forums even existed and admit..I did apply to the Bottom feeders without knowing they were: J.B.Hunt,C.R.England,Werner and maybe Swift.(don't remember for sure) I do remember what SAVED me from the 1st three IRONICALLY..were 2 Dui's I received in 1980 at the age of 20 years old..

I realize this was rather long-winded and I apologize for that;but my point is I don't think ALL get into this and know what lies in store for them. They see clean shiny Trucks, talk to an even more POLISHED recruiter and have NO CLUE of the nightmare which awaits them. Just a thought.....

If enough people say no these companies cant get away with this type of stuff! I know people have financial issues, ect. But to drive a truck someone crapped all over? Hell no!!:biggrin_25510:

    Fixed it for you.

Honestly, with all of the information out about these companies, why do people waste their time? And don't tell me it's because you had no choice. You had no choice because you were too lazy to look for a job that wasn't posted on the internet.
