You could have just said ok then jerked around "getting coffee", "adjusting your seat and mirrors", or any number of things for 5 minutes if it was that important to you. You decided to draw a line in the sand over this for some reason and it didn't turn out in your favor.
Good luck finding another driving job just remember to pick your battles. -
So, you are saying that if you were the boss you would prefer hipocritical insubordinance rather than the employee telling you what's wrong with the picture???
Sure there are ways around many work disputes but maybe that's what's wrong with this industry ... too many people not drawing a line in the sand ... maybe -
Passive aggressive would be a more accurate description than hypocritical. If you think that her boss really cared about those 5 minutes you are wrong. The boss cared more about the perception of insubordination than the actual insubordination. Some of the best advice I have ever received is "The strong move quiet the weak start riots"
Additionally, if you think being a boss is about riding an employee's ### over 5 minutes then you should never be put in a position of authority at any company unless you are the only employee of said company.
I'm the first guy to "draw a line in the sand", but when I do it's because a line drawing offense has been committed. Five minutes ain't a line drawing offense.Ghost Ryder and Sublime Thank this. -
The only thing i got from this thread is jseney doesn't know how to spell vehicle.

You misunderstood my position.
You repeated what I said in different words. (and possibly better ones) "The Boss cared more about the perception of insubordination than the actual insubordination." This is why I asked you if you would prefer hipocritical insubordinance. Because I believe this to be wrong. I believe that there should be a fluid communication between employer and employee mainly because we all are on the same team.
Furthermore, I never said being a boss was about riding an employee for five minutes. So please don't put words into what I type. I have been a boss and I never had to ride anyone because among many things being a good boss is leading by example ... and boy is it hard.
... to conclude I will have to disagree with your statement of the strong moving quiet; in some instances that is the case but I believe that in this particular case it was just the boiling point and that there is more to BOTH sides of the story... I believe more ppl in THIS industry need to take a stand because there is alot of safety issues going on that go ignored on a daily basis. If we all move a pebble we can get it cleaned up faster. It's about responsibility and taking responsibility for your actions. If she felt 5 minutes was enough for her to draw a line in the sand then good for her. I wouldn't have done so but we all have our own thresholds. -
This thread is like a soap opera..... You can leave for months, come back.

My company have onboard computers on the trucks and we were told that we should log at least 8 minutes for either a pretrip or posttrip for inspection.

My guess is airforcetoo had these discussions over 5minutes and other picayune nothingness more than just this day.. Boss had finally had enough...
Sublime Thanks this. -
Airforcetoo?? I'm not the one who started the thread. I've never had a discussion over 5 minutes but when I do take a stand I'm sure its over something worthy. Please explain your comment in further detail because I don't understand why you would confuse me with the OP.
