I've been driving now for 2 yrs. Done 7 months with Werner on DG and switched to CTL pulling a tanker.I was home every weekend with Werner just not making any money.Switched to CTL and the longest I've been out is 4 weeks,my choice. Made over $45,000 last year and was home only OTR 250 days.Lot of nights and weekends home.If you have a co.keeping you out for 6-8 weeks it is time to look somewhere else unless it is your choice. As to getting paid for extra work I now get detention after the first hr.,breakdown pay starting at the time of the breakdown and layover pay if I have to do a 34hr.reset on the road or if I set for over 24hrs.waiting to p/up or deliver. Good jobs are out there you just need to find what works for you.

I drive for Roehl and get home every 11 to 24 days, I choose how long to stay out and they get me home within a day or so of when requested, unless it is important ( Dr appointment, daughters wedding) in which case I am home on time or early. I keep my tractor while on vacation, and really can't complain too much ( although I usually do, part of being a driver I guess). I made 42k my first year with them and more after that. I am home for three to five days depending on how long I stay out. We get detention, breakdown, layover and snow pay when it qualifies.

Actually, I did drive for Werner for about 6 months. The only things I liked about them were the W900 I drove, and the fact that they ALWAYS got me home on my requested day. Every 14 days. I only went to work for them because I had been local for 10 years and had an urge to go long haul again. They were the easiest to jump into an extended hood truck. My first trip was fabulous! Started in Allentown Pa. 4 pickups in ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin, then took the whole load to El Paso, Texas. Next load out of El Paso up to OKC, Ok. then down to New Orleans, then up to Georgia, then home. After that it turned into New Jersey to Ohio and back every day. I was home every 14 days, but I was never more than a day from the house and spent ALOT of time in New Jersey making multiple pickups and waiting for loads. Every time I got a good load going west, they would have me drop it in ohio and head back to Jersey. I called several times and told them I was 48 state , not N.E. Regional. I was being paid 48 state mileage rate, but being run regional. This equals small paychecks. I was told there were no openings on the NE Regional fleet, but they kept running me that way. Finally talked to a fleet manager and told him the situation, his answer was that New Jersey is one of the 48 states and we can run you there all we want. I quit that week. But they did get me home EVERY 14 days.

Did he say what state he lives in, or what city. That makes a dif too.

MR Toadie's location was Granby Ma. (See left hand side) His tastes and location were different than mine so had less conflicts. Werner tells you what you want to hear then does what they want every time. If you don't want to run NE, then don't run with Werner.

It all depends on who you drive for.
Most companies will give you 1 day at home for each week out.
    I wouldn't drive for a company that didn't pay something...for detention pay. ( Ie...sitting around waiting to get loaded/unloaded)
Currently I drive for 4 weeks and get 4-5 days off.
I get paid $15 for each 2 hour block of time I get delayed at a shipper or receiver.
