The killer part about this stretch of road is that VA has it clearly posted dense fog and crosswinds possible ahead. This is a perfect example of lack of common sense

I am pretty sure a 4 wheeler slammed on her brakes on the interstate when she saw fog and caused someone to rear end her which caused this pile up. On I40 in AR near mile marker 200 where they have nonstop construction, I personally know about five drivers from different companies who have gotten hit or hit someone there. Even I got caught by surprise, the traffic was moving normally, I had it on cruise and kept my distance. There was a part where the interstate has a big curve with large trees blocking your view. Around the corner all traffic was stopped. I immediately turned on engine brake, hit emergency flashers and slowed down gradually to a full stop. I was surprised how it just popped up in front of me.

Ice, snow, wind, rain.... No worries, fog scares me because all it takes is 1 driver to stop in dense fog and this is what you get. Slow down in these conditions! I hardly ever have my CB on any more, but when I'm running in bad weather especially fog I always have it on listening for warnings of an accident or slowed traffic ahead.

A lot of times these guys don't say anything on the cb, at times I wonder why some of them have a cb. MAYBE ITS FOR SHOW.

One of the witnesses said that she saw a few trucks running together down the hill at speeds that were to fast for conditions and the next thing she saw was this. I have run up and down that road for years and it did not matter if it was snow covered or foggy. Drivers were always driving way to fast and most of the time, they were going way faster than the cars!

I don't need a CB to tell me it's raining, foggy, or to slow the hell down.

It's called common sense, experience, and paying attention. You can buy those at the truck stops.

    Dna Mach Thanks this.

A CB will let you know there is a wreck ahead and give you a chance to get off the interstate before you get to it . If you get to a blocked highway in the fog you could get hit when you stop .

    Happens all the time.

Local news is reporting that Va DOT is looking at variable speed limits for this grade. They already have the programmable warning signs that warn of fog. A couple of computerized speed limit signs and they are in business.
