I must say I haul coils every single day and have never "mushroomed" a coil. I use straps not chains. Even with chains I can't see "mushrooming" a coil. Maybe I have been doing it all wrong all this time.
The Challenger, CAXPT and RERM Thank this. -
They can't require you to "oversecure" if you have adequate securement you don't have to add a strap....some trailers with sidekits don't even carry strapsvolvodriver01 Thanks this.

The new FMCSA does require one over the top on shotgun. I think its bs personally...thats why a grabbed a few 3 in racthet straps. i just hook one over pull out the slack and click it a time or two. It really isnt doing anything but makes its legal to dot......

I have....seen a driver the other day at US steel in dravosburg loading one in dock 1. i was behind him i dont know what was worse the fact that he load before me and i still got mine all chained down and side kit back on or the fact he threw one chain over the top and mushroomed his coil.....when i got in my truck and looked at him his coil looked like an egg on its side...

The securement over the shotgun loaded coil is for down force. keeps it in the cradle.Last edited: Apr 2, 2013

I guess thats the nice thing with my rit, i throw a J hook in the middle for down force....

I do the same on my fontaine. I guess I'll buy a couple of straps in the off chance that I have to haul shotgun. (they won't be tight, just snug)

I go 1 chain for every 10,000, suicides get an extra toward the rear to stop forward motion, shotguns get a stop block and a couple straps over the top.
