I try kaplans routes before. But I got tired of hauling for crap rates all the time. I dont know what happend but they keep holding loads for company trucks and sending o/o on crap routes. Ie they had me running to woodburn ky back to back saying i would have loads coming back to ambridge pa. ran the woodburn never got the great paying ambridge loads. ended up shooting to mcminnville for trees....found freight going to chattanoga stated running it which paid great than trees back. next thing i know its kaplan company trucks picking up from the broker i was using.....like i said i dont know whats going on right now so i am self dispatching was doing good intill this load here which i have never been stuck here before. i normally get good loads out but this week seems to be a shutdown week or something....lol

Personal lesson learned in the early '80s, never compete with company trucks. You will never have the winning hand in that poker game.

I think (know) it depends on the company. Midwest run Co trucks too, but us O/O's never get pushed back, and if there are multiple loads, we always get the better paying ones I have found. 2 loads paying the same, when one is 9' wide and the other is 11' wide? I always get the 9' wide one and let the company truck deal with the additional hassle.
A dishonest company though will always let the O/O's starve before they let their own trucks sit.

Some say take a cheap load to get to a better area. Others say never haul cheap freight.

If I could have had a cheap load to a better area last week, I could be hauling a good load now. Or at least deadhead out and be hauling a good load now as well. Either way, sitting at the friends house is costing hundreds of dollars a day.
