Heavy Winds

Hold on to the steering wheel tight. If your load allows move tandems further back. Go a speed you're comfortable with.

park if your too nervous
with the wind not broadside to it

moving the axles helps but remember DOT wont care if it makes you overloaded that it was windy

 

take into consideration wind direction and adjust speed accordigly

like if the wind is blowing big time southboud, and it's the direction you're going in

then at some point you head for a change of direction either east or westbound

that wind will hit you at the worst time, from the side in the middle of the turn

 

watch the trees/grass in the ditches. It'll give you an idea on the wind.

Two weeks ago, it was so bad with sustained 40 mph winds and 50+ gusts, I looked in the mirror. I was on the center line and my trailer was over the fog line with the left wheels and an empty trailer.

I parked it for the night.

It's all in YOUR comfort level. No one elses.

Even at 80K, there's only so much you can do.

 

The wind is mostly just a fule mileage killer. Other than that you probably dont need to worry about it unless you running out west in the long stretches of open desert.

I have had horrible wind to deal with in MN, WI, IA, IL and MO.

NE, WY, MT, SD and ND have some just on a more regular basis.
