With the tandems all the way FORWARD, be aware of your overhang, especially when pulling out of a parking spot in a truck stop, and when backing in for that matter. Seen many adjacent trucks get scraped.

My advice is to get used to just setting the trailers using the 41' mark ALWAYS.. empty and loaded.. when empty you will rarely have to adjust the tandems. If the company loading the trailers is normal, they load a LOT of the same stuff the same way. When I picked up an empty trailer, I'd just set the tandems at the 41' mark and would really not have to mess with anything most of the time. Of course if the load is going to CA you will have to set it shorter and I do not recall the actual figure there.. most states with restrictions was 41' from kingpin to center of the tandems. If you set for the shortest legal length for the states your load takes you to deliver.. then you will know when you load whether or not you can even take the load they load on you, If you cannot scale the load without moving the tandems back (lengthening the bridge) you cannot take the load and be legal. The only way to make the load legal is to hand move freight forward in the trailer.. and thats no fun~
